Are the BBC admitting EE is dire?
For 18 months now EE has been in the doldrums, with dreadful writing and unappealing storielines, yet the BBC has continually denied there is a problem.
When Corrie had its admittedly shorter and less drastic down period in 2001, Granada acknowledged that all was not well and promised that if viewers stuck it out there would be a return to core Corrie values. The results have been it's obvious success. Does the fact that the BBC has not admitted to loyal viewers that there is a problem mean that they don't realise how serious the problem is? |

The BBC have been trying to solve the recent problems at EastEnders and at the moment touch wood things have picked up regardless of who is in charge atm or what's going on behind the scenes.

I don't think they could not realise considering how much the press are on their backs! They just didn't like to admit it.

The show hit a bad spell back in 2004 but the episodes have been of much better quality in my opinion and I'm happy to watch them now and take them seriously which I wasn't prepared to do with the football storyline etc last year.

I'll be very interested to see the angle of their 20th anniversary celebrations given the current behind the scenes "chaos" and evident back-stabbing.

I am really looking forward to the 20th birthday because the plotline surrounding it is supposed to be massive and dramatic so it'll be interesting to see whether they deliver the goods.

EE has slowly become dire since Christmas 2002, it then fell completely apart during 2004 and of course the bad press didn't help the BBC, who up until Berridge left had failed to admit there was a problem.
We all know the truth and it’s obvious that the soap is in trouble after the rather public sacking of Kathleen H. |

See what I mean about the fans refusing to admit EE has been dire for ages.

Yes, sometimes believing everything is OK and saying it in public can come back to haunt you.

I prefer to call myself a long-term viewer and I noticed the quality beginning to sink in Christmas 2002 (which we all know is when Berridge took over) and I'd happily admit that all day long.

It is getting back on track now and even you admit that it has been cack by saying "EE is on the up" and such. |

The BBC haven't officially, but the cast i.e. Wendy Richard (long serving cast member) Kacey Ainsworth (cast member of four years) Natalie Cassidy (been there for years aswell) June Brown (long serving cast member) all these people in the last year have admitted the show is in need of help, what do you want, blood? The show is now getting that help with the recent events at Elstree.
BCJ you regularly say EE is shite and has been for years, which simply isn't true, so people will know when you're just trying to rub peoples faces in it, rather than creating a discussion. |

Their answer so far seems to have been to increase the sensational stories, throw in loads of incest. How about being a bit creative?

2004 was one of EE's worst years. How is it in trouble now though? Behind the scenes - yeah but atm what we're getting on-screen is quite good IMHO, maybe I'm prepared to settle for ANY improvement on 2004 and I believe that's what we're currently getting. |

I have no respect for EE now, where as 3 years ago I had towering respect for that show... |

Will, Do you remember when you happily took the P*ss out of EE for months on end when you first joined DS? I’m sure by your own admission it had been sh!t for some time.
