The BBC have said today that the rumours about the scheduling of Eastenders are untrue. One newspaper claimed that producer's at the show considered taking Eastenders off air for two weeks.

Meanwhile it looks like Kathleen Hutchison quit Eastenders as it became too much for her an insider said 'running a one hour a week drama is different to running a two hour a week soap and Kathleen could not do it'.

TV insiders are saying the return of the 'dream team' will see Eastenders back at its best by early summer at the latest.
Too much? if that is the case how did she get the job? maybe it was the bad press that did it.

Did anyone seriously think EE would have got the axe though?

Nope, not with it being the BBC's flagship show. I'm sure a few people here would like to have believed it though

Judging by some of the other threads, there were quite a few who did.

Trixie...not another thread on this topic!

They are all full of people who have/ never had any desire to watch EastEnders, the sooner they fall off this page the better, who are turning it into a big thing when infact its not.

Well I tend to agree with you but it's best to thrash this out with them is it not? Afterall the more they are ignored the more they will make up rumours and post lies from the tabloids.

I don't think The Sun actually said the show was going to be axed, just that it was rumoured to be going off air for 2 weeks.

To be brutally frank the BBC don't have much in primetime without it.

I honestly don't think it would do EE any harm whatsoever, and probably a lot of good, to take it off for 2 weeks or so, get new impetus into the writing, give the actors and storyliners time to draw breath and try and make sense of some of the mess they've been left with without being on the constant treadmill of churning out 4 episodes a week. I don't for one second think the Beeb will axe EE, but a 2 week or so break, and EE coming back fighting, might have done them the world of good.

I just thought I would post it before someone else did.

I don't watch any other shows during primetime normally either on the BBC.

somehow I find this line funny, I can just visualise the frustration on the poster's (Hch'net) face while typing it.

It's obvious that EastEnders wouldnt be axed, but I believe there is some truth regarding the pulling of the programme for a couple of weeks.

It must have been one of the options touted at a meeting that maybe EE should be put on a hiatus for a couple of weeks in order to sort out backstage problems. Im not saying that this idea was talked about seriously but it was probably one of the options - then someone leaked this to the Daily Scum and it was blown out of all proportion.

The BBC would never axe EastEnders anytime soon, it's a major programme that secures BBC ONE's claim to being the number 1 UK TV channel. It's also loved by many people and it's key to the BBC's licence fee. If the BBC were to ever axe it, networks like C4 and ITV would clamour to get the soap.

With reference to another channel snapping up EE:

EE is a BBC brand though would it be allowed to go elsewhere? Perhaps the producers would be forced to say enoughs enough if the beeb axed it?
And isn't Albert Square at the Beeb/Elstree, how would they fair with no set or would they still have permission to use it?

There are always ways around these types of things - if the BBC did axe it - in the interests of the licence payer etc if ITV/C4/SKY or whatever offered a large sum of money to take over the full production im sure the BBC could be forced into selling the rights etc.

But we all know it will never come to this!!

I think it would be excellent if C4 got EE. It could make a lot of money for the channel and help boost its popularity.
