Just thought I would set up a discussion thread for people to discuss the early years which have started re-airing on 5*.

Personally, I felt it was such a relief to see the Home and Away I always loved, and what a perfect timing to start from Sally's wedding to Keiran and the upcoming Sutherlands arrival.

I did already start one but hey it was just negative comments, so at least there's a fresh one now. Just watching the first one. Can't believe Kieran is such a sleeze to sleep with Gypsy behind Sally's back. Anyone else finding it strange watching Nancy Hayes as Ailsa?

oh sorry Dan! didn't see...yp hopefully it will mostly be positive (been a massive fan of h&a and been watching since bobby's accident as far as i can remember..and been watching the OZ "real" early years too)...but I guess most of todays fans of the current show probably won't see it like that

Yep was definitely strange to see Nancy playing Ailsa, especially the second episode of the reruns. She was on for around 6 months right?? Or was it less? As it must have been Nancy's first episode, since they had a voiceover at the start.

Glad to see a lot of the 1990s clan with Martin, Lance, Pippa, Floss and the Milco clip!!
I don't think a lot were a fan of the Nashes but I really enjoyed the Gypsy and Robert (?) storyline - hope the early years in OZ go to then - they have made it to 1992 so that's at least something

Thats fine it's dropped down a few pages anyway, I started watching the show on 16th February 2004 but have seen pretty much most of the 90s after I started watching, Saw the first ever ep in 2005 when I purchased the 2000th Celebration Video, then watched 1988 in 2009 that my friend recorded from their repeats in 1999 and sent over. then watched 1989-1992 via a friend sending over the 7Two repeats.

Believe it or not she's not actually on it for that long Judy Nunn is back in episode 2877 which I can't wait for as I can't stand Shauna and Fake Ailsa's chemistry, it's just laughable.

I loved the Nashes and think they got out the house at the right time too, I too hope they go up too June 2000 the repeats as then i'll have every single episode of the show to date, seeing the 80s and 90s clan was a lovely touch. love Martins description of Alison to Vinnie as well. spot on haha!

What time is it on? I always love going back to watch old episodes of Home and Away.

Todays episodes, About the 5th time i've seen these episodes up too about 2 eps after the Sutherlands arrive, so everything after 2857 up too 3396 apart from the mudslide is new too me.

Nice touch on the last episode seeing the family altogether all going over first loves, Jack telling Pippa that he tried his best to save Michael. really was the end of an era. A new era begins tomorow with the Sutherlands

It's not even funny how much I've looked forward to watching these eps today More enjoyable than Oz pace HaA atm anyway...

And Leah is full of character!! Something we are completely missing in her character today

Yp that empty house ready for the Sutherlands to move in was definitely the final early early years end of H&A - just thinking about it, any idea when the incidental music stopped? They used it throughout the 1990s and looks like it was still there at the end of yday's episodes...but I can't remember hearing it in say 2004 onwards...

Why do I feel H&A is just going to get worse and worse if they don't sort out their problems - i.e. overload of crime, bad boys - OZ pace a new gang or whatever have arrived and already sound like thugs! if they are like the braxtons, which seems that way, and since they are regulars, H&A is doomed till 2016...the only thing making me watch todays H&A is Alf, Leah, Marilyn, and Irene - but when they all leave, which I hope won't come until Leah's a pensioner, then that is really the end of H&A.

Ahhh these 5* episodes are just brilliant to see again. Let's hope they carry on till 2008/2009 at the latest and axe it when the Braxtons arrive....and then all true H&A fans will rejoice

Sorry but to me the "early years" are not the year 2000 onwards. To me it would be 1988 to 1995ish.

By the year 2000 H&A had been running for 12 years by no means "early on" in the series.

Did Gypsy actually sleep with Kieran? At the timr of Sally's non-wedding, Gypsy was genuinely repulsed at Kieran hitting on her and kept telling him to leave her alone, but he wouldn't.

I do love Alf's line to Kieran, "Which part of "no" don't you understand, sport? The N or the O?"

It is strange watching Nancye Hayes play Ailsa, as Ailsa was an original character and had been part of the show for 12 years. So not only was it strange to see someone else play her, but also that she looked very different to Judy Nunn. It was a shame that Judy Nunn couldn't play her during the episodes where she revisited her past by going back to her childhood home where she killed her abusive father, as this was a big detail of her character, but she was very ill, so understandably, her health had to come first.

I agree kind-of, but in 1995, only 88/89 would be considered the early years. The definition is decided by each individual viewer and it changes the longer the show goes on for. Back in 2007, when these were first repeated, the suggestion that these were 'the early years' was scoffed at, but now, when these are 13 years old and fall into 'the first half' of H&A's run, the title isn't so extreme, imo. Not 'correct', but not jarring.

Yh def agree that these are not the real early years - however 5* have been branding it that way (proabably because these were the first few h&A episdoes aired by Channel 5 and hence "early" for them) and so kept it consistent and as you can see the title of the thread has quotations around the early years...

Love that they don't talk over the theme tune at the end of the eps, I wish they would bring back that version it's AMAZING.

Yeah love that as well as that announcer for 5* has the most annoying voice i've ever heard.

Right today's ep. Seems in the early days of the Sutherlands they all different personality's which very quickly disappeared like Jade knowing everything and been geeky, Kirsty into skateboards and all that and Dani's frizzy heard gothic look and attitude.

Loving Sandy great entrance, wish I didnt know her fate now would of made it all the more exicting and nice final scene from Martin too.

Am I just being blind or have the 'early years' episodes disappeared from 5*? Only found it a couple of weeks ago and was really getting into them again

Nope, this doesn't surprise me. They've done it several times now. I was watching them too, despite having seen them countless times before as C5 always start from the same point.

I always watch in the hope that they'll reach the 2003-2006 period, but they never do.

The early years episodes are usually only shown when H&A have a season break so Channel 5 stop us at the same time so we don't catch up too fast.

I'm so annoyed they have stopped it. I really got into them. On the back of it, I decided to try and watch the new ones, but I cannot seem to get into it. The only SL I have any interest for is Sally's. I just don't know who anyone is and the people seem to look the same.
