After previous recommendations for the hot chocolate sachets, I went to buy them, but noticed they contain aspartame sweetener, which I avoid. Their jars of hot chocolate just contain sugar, but have half the amount of cocoa in them (10% rather than 20%) so I wasn't sure whether to bother buying it, but I'm glad I did. I've never tasted a water-based hot chocolate that tasted this nice. It's not as good as using real milk, but it's very tempting to drink this stuff instead of tea or coffee!
I also finally tried their strong white flour for bread making. I've bought Lidl's bread flour before and was very disappointed, and assumed Aldi would be the same, but it was fantastic. It's not quite as good as Allinson's extra strong flour, but it's 75p rather than £1.50 and is very close, so I'm definitely buying this from now on. I've bought their wholemeal flour but am yet to use it, but I'm hopeful it will be equally good. Aldi's flour is slightly yellow (like Allinson's) whereas Lidl's poorer flour is whiter and finer.
Aldi were doing boxes of Thornton's-style posh chocolates over Christmas, and I have to say they weren't very nice. They were being sold off dirt cheap after Christmas and still they couldn't sell them.
