That's debateable though. Perhaps people are realising that big brangs and bigger supermarkets have been ripping them off for items of the same quality.

I once saw a show where people were buying beans from Harrods for about £3 a tin or something stupid.

Grandessa Peanut Butter (smooth) is lovely.
Yes I agree. I normally have skippy smooth or Reece's creamy but did the weekly shop at Aldi so got this. Just had it on Crumpets yum yum

Try the free range breasts and whole birds.

Good:
Fajita kits. Love these and they've got a proper spicy kick to them too.
Wholemeal bread. Tasty.
Frozen tuna steaks. Good value.
Various wines. I don't think I've ever had a really rank bottle of wine from there.
Packaged ciabatta. Toasted up to make our own garlic bread.
Burgers. Not sure which ones as I didn't buy them but they came in fresh packs of 4 and were delicious.
Mixed peppers. Standard but great value at 69p for three at the moment.

Bad:
Steak. Really odd texture.
Lasagna. Tastless.
We had Fajita for tea. They were bloody lush! I got the cheap chicken and a nice piece of steak so did mixed. Plenty of peppers and some onions. They were tastier than Asda's in my opinion. I can't remember how much they were though. They were £1 in Asda.

sure you can go over the top, no way would I pay £3 for a tin of beans.

i used to buy a lot of Aldis food before they opened here. i used to go with my parents to Cwmbran and we used to buy a load of stuff from there. at the time i thought the products was ok, but last week I decided to buy their beans and also a tin of their meatballs as I use to like them and was not impressed with either.
I also got some spuds, lasted 3 days and they they went soft.

I go in there now for butter as it is cheap and ok, i do get better stuff now and again from elsewhere, but for eveyday use their butter is ok. i also get their part backed rolls as they are good and that is about it. Oh I did try their Aberdean Angus beefbugers last year and they was ok, not sure where the meat comes from, just because it says it is Aberdeen Angus, don't means it comes from the UK.
Their fresh sausages are awful, really tasteless and my sister think their frozen fish is rubbish and unless you want to use their fresh veg the next day, forget it.

i like other people is on a budget, so i try to save money, but not at the cost of taste and quality, some people will just buy from there because it is cheap. Oh their Stackers are ok as well, Pringles in other words, but not enough flavours.

Perhaps I've been lucky but personally I've not had any issue with quality from aldi. A lot of the stuff is the same as branded (or supermarket own) just in a different packet. I read somewhere about someone who brought a pack of Melts and found a packet of Skips in there.

I've noticed a lot of people mentioning that the fruit and veg doesn't last as long from aldi but I've not found that at all, some of the veg I've brought has held up better than the Tesco equivalent.

Our local Aldi were selling 1kg boxes of Kelloggs Corn Flakes for just over £2 earlier this week.
Box is enormous

Its often end of/out of season veg stuff that does not last.
More chemical spray needed?

The grapes, I'm getting a bit obsessed with the grapes at aldi, they are delicious. I buy the red ones, I take them to work for a snack and I put them in my salads, divine

Which ones? They do a few different versions. The £1.99 ones with apple are delicious.

As I've said before, the frozen tuna steaks are really good vfm. I wouldn't have frozen white fish, whole, as the centre of a main meal but theirs is fine in things like fishcakes, fish pie, etc.

Also do homemade battered fish & chips with them.

I tried their jar of madras sauce - the one with the plastic bot of dry spices at the top for £1.29.

It was good, but nothing special, and I have to say I preferred Lidl's, which had a sort of molasis or sultana note to its flavour.

The spices in the cap were fine powder in Lidl's, but had formed into lumps in Aldi's, though it melted fine when I stirred it in.

Aldi are also weak when it comes to rice and pasta. Lidl have a good premium white rice that's like Tilda, and a limited range of egg pasta, whereas Aldi only have egg pastas when it's part of an occasional weekly offer, and it costs more.

Does anyone else use the herb mills? I've got the Italian herb, garlic, rainbow pepper, chilli, garlic and chilli and meat supreme ones. I love them, I use them on almost everything I cook at the minute.

Is that good or bad?

If fruit and veg last forever that implies that it has been sprayed with something nasty.

Sorry I didn't mean they literally last forever if I buy some they are so fresh that they will last a week - that's if I can resist eating them.

ALDI are now stocking Jim Beam (white) for £14.99.
I couldn't see Clarke's on the shelf so I wonder if it's been replaced.

Just tried a bottle of Andala (or is it Andara?) Chilean cauvignon blanc for £4. It tastes like alcoholic grapefruit juice! Very sharp and bitter. I didn't like it, but I can imagine it appealing to some. It didn't taste vinegary or bad, just not my tastes at all, and certainly not smooth.

Old Hopking dark Rum, £9.99 for a 70cl bottle is very nice.
Lockerbie mature Scottish cheddar £1.29, decent.
Pack of 4 Butteries, 69p. Brilliant toasted with jam on.

The "grandessa" branded peanut butter.
Aldi have changed it, tastes very bland.
How very disappointing

I had some turkey mince from Tesco at the weekend for the first time in months as I usually get it from Aldi, and I can now officially say the turkey mince in Aldi is much tastier.

Aldi's pesto sauce is good. Sometimes they do really nice pasta.
