Aldi roast potatoes in goose fat.
You must try them, they are amazing. Light and fluffy and a nice crunchy outside. |

For the second time in a week and a half, their hot cross buns were on sale but rang through at the wrong price and because of their speed-demon scanning system, I had to wait until the receipt was printed to check the prices. They were advertised on the shelf for 39p but rang through at 79p, that's quite a difference. I got my money back though.

Their 99p chocolate spread is pretty good. It's the closest to Nutella I've tasted so far, if a little too sweet.

Their £1 flat stone baked pizzas are great. However, I bought the box of three that goes by the same brand name and look identical on the packaging, and they were vastly inferior. You fairly assume the box will contain three pizzas, the same as the individual ones.
The 'cheese' tasted like white lasagne sauce, not mozzarella. The bases came out dry like a cream cracker and the overall taste and texture wasn't great. Not vile, but it's definitely worth buying three separate 325g pizzas for £1 each rather than their box of three 300g pizzas for £2.69. They are not the same. The single £1 pizza still tastes nice, though not quite as nice as they used to before an update to the packaging last year which mysteriously coincided with the weight dropping from 350g to 325g and the taste altering. |

Their gin is amazing, London Dry, best I have tasted in a long time. It has won loads of awards too in blind taste tests.

I've always got a couple of their £1 pizzas in the freezer. I sometimes add stuff to them and a drizzle of olive oil sprinkle dried oregano when they're done....lovely.

ALDI seem to have stopped stocking Clarke's burbon and replaced it with Jim Beam.
Clarke's was nice and I really could taste much difference between the two. What is different though is that Jim Beam is £1.50 dearer. |

I tried Aldi for the first time 2 weeks ago, and i will go again, but only for a few things.
Fruit and Veg, not impressed at all, most of it has gone off within a few days, and no where near as big or as full of flavour as the ones i get from either Asda or Sainsbury's. Exception is the White Potatoes. Their equivalent of Cheese strings are just disgusting, i like cheese strings these were vile and tasted powdery. Their 'Village' bread is ok, and i cannot grumble at 55p, but keep away from the everyday 45p one that made me feel ill. Chocolate is good, will go back for them, as well as the 65p pizza baguettes and the the £1 stone pizzas. The crisps were not bad, but the only one i could not tell any difference in was the wotsit's style ones, the rest did not taste as nice but again were ok, and their version of monster munch had a nasty harsh taste to them with the flavour, the flaming hot one made me cough a lot, and i love that flavour monster munch and don't have that happen with the official ones. I could not find any Mushy Peas, and annoyed they do not do the small tins of beans. Their Red and Green curry sauce was vile, i just tipped it in the bin and got the Asda home brand ones much nicer. |

I tend to go once a week and find the best buys are :
Fruit and veg (black grapes are lovely) Tinned and fresh Mackerel so much cheaper than the supermarkets Gammon joint again much cheaper and just as good Salad bags Tinned toms Crisps Cola (diet one is very good) Frozen prawns Frozen lamb shanks Pizza Salad cream Washing up liquid (very good) Chorizio Milk Orange juice Custard Eggs Packet noodles (very good and only about 18p) I won't buy their cheese, or some of their yogurts too salty and sweet. |

They've started doing 1L bottles of their own-brand Pimms for £6, however the alcohol content is 17.5% rather than about the 22% of the normal 70cl bottles. So it's clearly a different drink inside. At that strength, I'm wondering if it's not just rebadged Jeeves, which Lidl sometimes sell in 1L bottles for the same price.
I've also noticed more streamlining on the shelves. They've stopped selling flaked almonds, dessicated coconut and other baking stuff. And they used to have a range of ice cream cones, wafers, clams and stuff, all of which has gone completely. They now only do occasional batches of cones for more than they used to be. Oh, and large tins of sweetcorn have changed. The lining of the tin is no longer coated in plastic to keep it fresh, and the corn tastes weaker. And I forgot about crackers. They used to do lovely cream crackers (better than Jacobs in my opinion) but suddenly stopped doing them, only selling posh crackers with herbs and stuff. Last week they started selling smaller packets of plain cream crackers in a yellow packet and they're not as nice. They're made in Malta, have Arabic writing on the back and don't mention Aldi, so I don't think these are specially made for them anymore. They're just some cheap brand Aldi have decided to stock. |

You don't know my OH!
![]() Like you, I avoided the chicken for a long while. I was buying it in Tesco but too often it was tough so I transfered to my butcher but got fed up with them as they never seemed to have chicken pieces and were reluctant to cut up a whole chicken. Then I noticed the Red Tractor and union flag on the Aldi chicken and thought I'd give it a go. So far, so good. |

Not sure if it's a new product or just a rebrand but the chocolate milk is as good as ever.
It's slightly thicker than offerings from ASD, Morrisons, Yazoo etc. and tastes smoother. It doesn't have a harsh chocolate taste that some can have, like it hasn't been blended properly. |

I've been an enthusiastic advocate of Aldi for some years, however in the last month I've had to throw out some packs of carrots and parsnips - clearly they were past their sell by date.

Probably not something specific to Aldi, but on Sunday afternoon (about 2:30) I stopped in to get some buns as I was making chicken burgers for tea, and the selection was abysmal. Lots of bread, but the only thing left for burgers were whole wheat buns, which were okay, but they wouldn't have been my first choice. I was hoping they'd have some cheese-topped rolls, they're REALLY nice. I think maybe the warm weather brought out the barbecue brigade who bought up all the other buns.

I remember going to Aldi on Christmas Eve in the last hour of it trading, and it looked like it had been looted! There was literally nothing at all in the meat section, a handful of packets of cheese scattered around otherwise empty shelves, most vegetables all gone and not much fruit either. Even tinned food and bottles of drink were extremely low. And still it was completely packed! I'm not sure if that was good for them because it meant they weren't left with any surplus stock, or bad because they lost out on selling more. |
