The Grandessa peanut butter is not a patch on what it used to be. Like a previous poster said, some of their biscuits are not as good either, I've noticed lately that the ground coffee has changed too On a plus, I picked up a pair of suede Desert Boots, reduced to a tenner this week

I went to pickup some bottles of Bavaria lager the other day but when looking on the shelves realised it's LIDL that sell it.

So I bought bottles of St. Etienne. Can't remember if it was lager or pilsner but it was a nice. A 500ml or so bottle at 4.8% for 89p.

You sure? I've had Bavaria from Aldi

Just had a look and it's on their site. They must have been out of stock. St. Etienne was a good enough alternative

and 2p cheaper per bottle

Never had the St Etienne, the Bavaria is lovely though

Yes it is. I bought it by mistake as I thought it was Baltika (a russian lager that Wetherspoon sell).

Just remembered that the LIDL bottle pilsner wasn't very good at all. The taste was ok but it was unbelievely fizzy. It was really harsh and actually hurt my mouth.

Aldi do two packs of 250ml bottles of pils. The cheap one is vile, and is about 2.6%. The premium one (in the blue cardboard wrapper) is much nicer and 4.8%. I can easily drink that, though I once drank a bottle after a bottle of their premium "Bavaria" lager (91p for 500ml at 5%) and it didn't taste as nice in comparison. The Bavaria lager is fantastic for the money.

Lidl only do one type of 250ml packs of pils, and they're the cheap 2.6% stuff.

Both Aldi and Lidl's bottles of premium cider (apple or pear) are very nice, and are at least drinkable compared to their 2L plastic bottles of normal ciders. They taste like chemicals.

I tried ALDI's thai chicen curry with rice the other day, think it was £1.49.

The sticky rice was a little too sticky and was all in one lump but the chicken curry was probably the nicest supermarket curriy I've had, lovely stuff.

Sad to see Aldi's 'Specially Selected' maris piper potatoes quietly disappear. They've been replaced by cheap bags that clearly aren't as good.

Also, the echalion shallots and cavolo nero that only appeared a couple of months ago have disappeared too. They've also added fresh lemongrass, which is down to the last couple of bags in my branch, so I wonder if that will return either.

Another couple of reasons to keep popping into Asda occasionally. Aldi had almost weaned me off them completely a month ago when they added echalion shallots!

Vegetable crisps - carrot, parsnips and beetroot. Lidl had them first but seem to have disappeared unless they sell out as soon as they get them - they are delicious.

I got Maris Piper yesterday at my local store - 49p a bag!

After 3 years shopping at Aldi, I was surprised to see that after all this time their Rich and Roast ground coffee had gone up by a whole 6p. I can deal with that

Exactly, no longer the 2.5KG bags of 'Specially Selected' ones for £1.89.

Non food items at Aldi:

Good:
Washing up powder/gel

Bad:
Washing up liquid - might be cheaper but I prefer a proper brand like Fairy.
Toilet cistern blocks - no cheaper than Home Bargains, and leave the toilet with an unbelievable amount of 'frothy water', so much so that it gets close to over flowing!

Food items:

Rooster potatoes generally cheap at around £1.50 - £2.00 a bag most weeks, although Lidl had them on offer at £1 a bag last week.

I think the one I tried was not the platinum. Will try that next time I shop there

The latest thing to disappear from the shelves of Aldi is swiss roll.

And I'm not sure if Aldi ever sold 85% or 90% cocoa chocolate bars (I usually get 'good' chocolate from Lidl), but all they had yesterday was 75%.

I also bought their 'Quality Street' style chocolates called 'Surprises' and they're rather sugary. The coconut ones are just a sickly paste rather than course dessicated coconut. I won't be buying them again.

As for washing up liquid, I've never bought Aldi's, but Lidl's W5 washing up liquid is very good, just as good as Fairy and about 95p for a litre. Lidl's descaler and laundry powder is also fantastic and seems cheaper than Aldi.

Picked up some Berliner Kindl Pils yesterday.

Drank 1/2 a bottle and the 3 others went in the bin. The worst lager I've ever drunk, horrible stuff.

I usually get the Bavaria lager which is really nice but they didn't have any.

Hope its not a permanent replacement cos the Berliner is undrinkable.

Has anyone tried the aldi alpen? I really like the normal alpen but the aldi one is over half the price cheaper. Will give it a go if it's pretty much the same sort of taste.

I think that branded Alpen has a lot of sugar in it, usually the alternatives don't so it is a different taste, but probably better for you. The Aldi/Lidl ones tend to bulk up on the cheaper ingredients like wheat flakes as against the more expensive nuts and fruit.

Is AlDI's Country Harvest?
If it is then it's fine.

I have a handful of that, a handful of crunchy nut cornflakes and a sprinkle of dried fruit.

Wow! I was drinking Berliner-kindl in Berlin and loved it. It'd be a revelation if it's in my Aldi I'd literally go and fill my boot!

Everyone I've spoken too says its one of their favourite lagers so I'm beginning to wonder if I somehow got a dodgy bottle? Or maybe I just have terrible taste...😁

Its still on sale at my Aldi (99p a bottle) so get yourself to yours quickly!

Does anyone know if Aldis mouthwash is any good?

I have tried it and didn't like it.

It is very fizzy, so when you gargle, it fizzes up and overflows out of your mouth if not careful.
