Our local Aldi has changed the offerings of snacks available near the checkout to nuts, seeds, and healthier options. I wonder if this is a new year thing with many people choosing to eat healthier for their resolutions or if it's a long-term change. Very brave of them anyway, I think sugary chocolates and sweets are the easy sell for most stores.

They've been quite cute, the new year brochure was all diet and exercise stuff!

LIDL have nuts, seeds and healthy snacks at their checkouts, maybe ALDI are copying?

You're right, Lidl has been doing that for some time. I don't get to Lidl that often as it's out of the way. Now if only Aldi would pull their finger out and get back to stocking pistachios and cashews again. They haven't had them in at least 3 or 4 months now. They've left the space on the shelf for them open with a sign that says 'out of stock, sorry for the inconvenience'. Not good enough!!!

Lol. No stock problems in my local, I've just bought some this morning.

I know what you mean about Lidl, mine is quite out of the way too. The instore bakery is good but other than that I struggle to do a full shop there.

I'm club Aldi all the way!

*edit*

Hope you get your nuts soon! 😁

Funnily enough I've gone to Lidl to get my nuts the past couple months. I think the price is equivalent per 100g but I prefer the smaller bags from Aldi as the bigger ones tend to taste stale after a couple weeks. Asda's prices are significantly higher so I don't buy any nuts there.

My local Aldi has loads of pistachio nuts.
You use a scoop and put them in a bag and pay per weight.

I have not had any yet, but will try them.

I've never seen that in an Aldi before

In Ramsgate.
Unless I have confused it with Lidl. I will check next time I visit.

I'd love that if the price was good. As long as they're unsalted though, I eat nuts for health reasons, not so much as a snack food.

Was in earlier and they've done the same. Two checkout women we're discussing them and said most of it was awful.

I noticed the scoop your own nuts in the Plymouth Lidl the other week.
Wish I bought some at the time, as I've been looking round Sainsburys et al for some recently, but am not keen on their prices.

Awful as in bad idea for the store or awful as in they didn't like the offerings personally?

I probably have a bit of a bias in favor of it as I'm very fond of nuts and seeds of all types. I don't do trail mixes though, a good portion of the stuff was of that variety. Perhaps they think people would be more willing to try a pre-mixed product rather than many bags of each type of nut.

Hair dye - £2.99. Very happy with results and condition of my hair afterwards.

I mostly visit Aldi, but do go to Lidl occasionally so may well have remembered it incorrectly.

Both thought most of the range was disgusting.

Dairy Toffees. 23p for 200g.

Good:

Their tea tree shampoo for 65p. I have fine, greasy hair and it stays clean for 2 days since I've been using it, rather than having to wash it every day like I have for years.

Their sliced bloomer (white or malted) is lovely! I wouldn't say it's all that cheap at 99p but it makes delicious tasty sandwiches and especially toast as it's cut very thick.

Their tinned chunky veg soup with minted lamb is divine. The chicken version is nice also but a little bit bland so I add a crumbled chicken oxo cube to it.

We had their frozen large stuffed turkey breast roast for xmas dinner and it was lovely - moist and tender, and a good ratio of meat to stuffing, unlike the 4-bird roast I bought from them a couple of years ago which tasted mainly of soapy sage.

I agree with an earlier poster who raved about their special selection treacle and coconut biscuits. I buy half a dozen packs at a time as my nearest Aldi is over 100 miles away (as is any supermarket except the Co-op).

Sliced Gouda and Edam cheeses - brilliant value at 99p for 10 large slices.

Frozen chicken breasts.

Stew pack of fresh vegetables. Huge bag compared to other supermarkets and lovely and fresh.

Bad:

Own brand cornflakes. Like eating cardboard.

Stollen bites. They were lovely in previous years but this year they were horrible. Dry, with a strange "sweetener" tasting coating.

My local Aldi have just told me that their legendary Dominion Choco Toffees have been discontinued The bastards - how could they?

Has anyone seen them still on sale at other branches?

My fella left his snap on the working top this week, as a result he nipped in to Aldi to pick up a quick replacement for his break. His shop is next door so it was convenient. He picked up a tin of hot chicken curry and a jacket pot to cook in the microwave at work. I pulled a funny face and thought "tinned chicken curry. NO thanks lol" it was 99p and he bought two tins home and we had them with chip shop chips. It was so nice lol. For a quick meal I will be keeping a few tins in the cupboard for future.

Thoroughly recommend the Spicy Pickled Onions, pickled with those little red chillies and peppercorns.

I don't like it but my 11 year old is addicted to their tinned hot chicken curry. Now that you mention it, it is similar to chip shop curry and with a decent amount of chicken in there.

I drove to a branch much further away today, hoping to buy up every packet of Choco-Toffees I could find, but they really have stopped selling them. That has left me mightily pissed off.
