The chicken seems so cheap that I cant bring myself to buy it - it cant have led a happy life!
Good: Fajita kits. Love these and they've got a proper spicy kick to them too. Wholemeal bread. Tasty. Frozen tuna steaks. Good value. Various wines. I don't think I've ever had a really rank bottle of wine from there. Packaged ciabatta. Toasted up to make our own garlic bread. Burgers. Not sure which ones as I didn't buy them but they came in fresh packs of 4 and were delicious. Mixed peppers. Standard but great value at 69p for three at the moment. Bad: Steak. Really odd texture. Lasagna. Tastless. |

I love Aldi and have switched to a lot of their stuff but I couldn't do the whole shop there.
Good Grandessa jams Digestives (Inc chocolate covered) better than mcvities IMO Ginger snaps Most of the crisps are excellent, love the onion rings, bacon rashers and I think the stackers trump pringles Garlic and coriander naans Sunnyhills ready to bake Ciabattas and rolls Ultimate pork and Cumberland sausages (the ones in the black packet) Smoked streaky bacon (again the one in the black pack) it's really excellent Specially selected yogurts, my favourites are lemon curd and rhubarb Fruit corner yogurts, better than muller and half the price! Specially selected cheddar Ham and cheese baguette pizzas Skinny fries Bad Salmon paste, wasn't good at all Frozen scampi, tasteless |

I know this isn't food but it is from Aldi - The make up. The make up is brilliant and so much cheaper than boots for example. Between the Slavettes and myself we have tried the BB cream, foundation, mouse blusher, lipstick, eye shadow and a highlight thing (bit like touche eclat) . I've not tried mascara or eye liner as I've never seen them in store. Some of the make up is only in the middle aisles but there is normally a selection near the toiletries.
#3 Slavette says the false eyelashes are brilliant - so when they are in our local store she stocks up. |

Confused about that. Are they the same price?
If cheaper then why not buy frozen and defrost it yourself? The 'fresh' legs of lamb have a different label and taste nicer, but they secretly arrive frozen as well, and the staff put a few out to thaw over night. I've been in there a few times and seen the staff putting them out frozen solid, either because the shelf has already run out or it's close to closing time and, as they're putting out the rest of the meat, they chuck a few frozen joints behind the couple of thawed ones left at the front of the shelf. |

Aldi's cartons of passata cost around 25pence compared to 80 pence in Sainsburys.

ALDI checkouts are fast. They don't hang about. It was even more impressive when they had to input the prices manually. |

That's what you are supposed to do. The idea is to put your shooping back into the trolley after it has been scanned and when paid for goto the counter to pack it.

There's one opened near us fairly recently. I've been in a couple of times but haven't bought very much so far. The fruit and veg doesn't strike me as particularly cheap, whereas our Lidl always seems to have some real bargains in that department.

Have just moved house and we now have an Aldi! Been a couple of times and impressed with the place
Good Pizza (the Totally Topped ones) - best frozen pizza I've had but the chili beef one is very, very hot! Fresh chicken, beef and lamb - all farm assured and half price of other supermarkets. Frozen fries - 2nd only to M&S but half the price. Specially Selected curry sauces - lovely but the Jalfrezi is hot, hot, hot. Biscuit barrell - fantastic value and great to have in the cupboatd, also get the ginger nuts and fruit shortbread. Garlic naans and garlic wraps - better than the other supermarkets. Choco Break 'kit kat' biscuits - nicer than kitkats! Bad I feel rushed at the checkout! I always spend too much as there are bargains galore. I'm going back today to check out some more stuff. |

I went to Aldi on Sunday for a couple of things and it was rammed. Not a pleasant experience at all.

Good:
Garlic and Coriander nan bread Curry sauces Pasta Sauces Deli meats Norpak Butter (Lurpak ripoff but better than the original imo!) Breakfast cereals especially the malted wheaties - half the price of Tescos ones My new favorite is the frozen chicken kievs, the nicest ones I've had from anywhere and only £1.99 for four! (I'm starting to sound like an advert) Bad: Bags of stir fry veg, all a bit too chunky for me Green beans always seem a bit stringy Can't think of any more... |

Has anyone tried both the "Highland Black" and "Glen Orrin" whiskies?
They're the same price, but one is an 8-year blended grain & malt whilst the other is a 5-year blended malt (no grain). So how do they both compare to, say, Famous Grouse and Bells? I usually buy a litre of Famous Grouse on special offer in Asda for £14/15 every few months. I'm not so keen on Bells. |

Staples:

Norpak when Lurpak isn't on offer (but I won't pretend it is as good and they have no unsalted) £1.69
The specially selected chips £1.79
Wedges are OK too 79p
The dark chocolate bars that comes individually wrapped 99p
Nescafe (original and/or Gold, now they are selling it) £4.19 300 gms/£5 200 gms respectively
Large bottles of Malt Vinegar if needed for chutney making - 20p
Free range egg mayo (can't remember the price, but under a pound)
69p vegetables - this week you can get 3 huge peppers. Less than half the price of other supermarkets selling two and a half per pack
Lacura face cream £1.99, hand cream 75p, toothpaste 69p
F/R large eggs. Recently went up 10p to £1.09 for half a dozen, but still the cheapest around
I stopped buying the wholemeal bread after a few in a row disintegrated when taken out of the wrapping. Most odd. I still buy wraps though and flour for baking and love the deli pork loin slices. |

I avoid all supermarkets at weekend - nightmare!
If they're set on competing with the big guns then they really need to sort out the number of tills and people they employ at any one time - and sort out the rubbish bagging up system! |

I do usually but it was a necessary trip and Aldi is the closest supermarket! The combination of small supermarket + too many people + too few checkouts open made for a hideous experience.

The black is richer and slightly sweater, imho much nicer than the regular brands famous grouse & bells etc. The glen orrin is my preference its much lighter and at £12.99 a steal! |

Doesnt everyone just put everything back in the trolley at the tills then go over to the counter and pack everything there?
