Mushrooms have a very high water content, so it should take them quite a while to dry out. If I have any left at this point, I still use them in cooking because they have a very good concentrated flavour. Just like the expensive dried mushrooms.

I don't know the whisky loaf. The fruit loaf is in a normal 'loaf of bread' plastic bag.

Bad - Aldi Mediterranean pre-washed salad in a bowl. Pre-washed? It was absolutely soaking.

Again, not directly to do with Aldi, but the swines at Tesco have just raised the price of Bavarian beer from 88p to £1, whilst Asda (who only just started stocking it) have raised it from 84p to 88p. I wouldn't be surprised if Asda now raise it to £1 too. So get it for a few pence less while you can.
Not only do I like it as a drink, I love the taste of home made bread using it instead of water, so I go through loads of it. If anyone wants good garden paint, their 2.5L tins of garden paint are now reduced from £7.99 to £5.49. Available in green, sand, white and light grey, whilst stocks last. If you have a dull, grey wooden fence like me, £5.49 is a bargain for brightening it up! The equivalent big brand products cost upwards of £15. It goes on wood, brick, roof tiles and cement, as well as children's toys, and has a fairly matt finish. No primer or undercoat needed, unless you want white. The back of the tin says you need to use primer to stop the white version ending up blotchy. As for salad, I wouldn't trust any 'washed' salad. I always suspected it wasn't washed properly in factories and there was recently a documentary that showed my worst fears. Still, I bought a £3 salad spinner from Lidl a few years ago and buy their cheaper salad products that say they need to be washed. It's really no hassle, the salad ends up bone dry and you know it's spotlessly clean. |

My mate threw a strop at the tills once because he was going so fast!! She demanded to see the manager and kicked off with him too
![]() Good: Their condiments are very good - Bramwells (I think they may have bought the brand) - I particularly like their mint sauce. Strong White Bread Flour - excellent and cheap - 55p bag - (assuming they still sell it - it disappeared from my local store - not had cause to check in a while). Dried Bread Yeast Chocolate not bad but be aware Asda's Smart Price Milk Chocolate is 1/3rd the price at 30p per bar and blows even the premium brands out of the water nevermind Aldis! Cherry Bakewells Sandwich Fillings Milk Toilet Rolls with Aloe Vera (3 ply) Tissues Fabric Softener Air Freshener - although recently it was withdrawn as the cans were under pressure and failed 1/2 way through the contents - presumably it will be back when the issues sorted Bad: Palma Ham - mine was chewy |

The italian ham is good. I can't remember off the top of my head but I think there are three flavours.
I think there's a rosemary one and a basil one. |

They have to put 950 items per hour through the till or they get in trouble. That's why they're fast!

I can see how a till could record the time between scans, but that's about it. Someone could I suppose extrapolate that figure to come up with a theoretical number of scans per hour, but staff can't hurry up customers to pay so it can't be true that there's an actual scans per hour figure used and any punishments handed down (or we'd have heard about it in the media).
The point is, they scan fast and it's good because long queues move quickly. As long as the customer keeps up and doesn't try packing a trolley load of shopping at the checkout. |

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-finances.html "[I would report it] if a member of staff was working too slowly" Aldi staff are expected to work properly, not be slovenly, unlike like some UK chain store employers whose employees constantly have a 'whatever!" attitude. And what's wrong with that. Spying on employees private lives and relationships is another matter, though. Quote:

They are worked hard, and do long shifts (the branch may open from 8am to 10pm, but the staff start at 7am, finish at 3pm and another set take over until 11pm) but untruths like this muddy the water. |

Regardless of the 'scans per hour claim' (see below), you're obviously ignorant to the thousands of stories highlighted by European media over the last 20 years:

Spiegel said the spying allegations revealed on Sunday only applied to Aldi Sud stores. Don't you just love the Daily Mail? It is unclear whether any such clandestine operations were conducted on staff in UK outlets. ![]() Actually – No. |

Good Ice cream with Scottish Tablet American Peanut ice lollies
Bad They stop selling tins of Chicken in White Sauce for months with no warning. It's so annoying cos it is my favourite late-night snack. There's been none in my local for weeks now and I'm down to my last 3 tins. |

No Chunky Chicken pieces in white sauce. They keep suddenly withdrawing it for several months then start selling it again. The manager can't say why. Very annoying. I don't like any other brand so I'll just have to wait till it's on the shelves again

Its one of their seasonal things, it will prob be back in the autumn. They only carry a certain amount of items to keep costs down and some of the tinned meats , frozen pies etc always dissapear in the spring/summer to make way for summer stuff

4 x Scotch Beef 1/4 pounders for £2.99
4 x Brioche burger buns 99p. Quite a bit of fat came off the burgers while cooking, no big hassle though. They were lovely, decent quality. |

I tried their 65p tins of soup, and all were wonderful for the price. The tomato with creme fresh was the nicest, the chicken with white wine was all right (though a little weak) and the pea was OK but weaker than the others. Quote:

I also find their large buns (just reduced from 52p to 49p) just as nice as their brioche buns but half the price. Either way, you need a bit of salad, cucumber and tomato in them to really get the best flavour. |

Woohoo!
Aldi are offering a revolutionary new product on 6th August! Imagine water! Just water! Now, imagine a liquid product in a plastic bottle you could pour into just plain water to enhance it and add the flavour of, say, apple & blackcurrant, orange & peach or even strawberry and watermelon! If you are able to imagine that, - and I know not all of you will - you'll be delighted to know that Aldi are going to be introducing "water enhancer" that does exactly this! It's a pound for 50ml of the stuff and could literally change your life. Forever. I'm going to set up a tent outside my local Aldi at midnight, to be first in the queue to get this new product in the morning. Like iPhones at the Apple Store. |

The sweetened soya milk has now been improved, I would guess since reviews used to be poor. I's now similar quality, IMHO, to the Alpro standard soya mik. IMHO.
