They're on the fresh meat section in a box.”

Just the thought of this makes me feel sick.

Sorry Granny! I'd never had them in my life but our local butcher does hog roasts at various functions and told me that the tastiest part of the pig are the cheeks. apparently they are a real delicacy in France and Italy. So I saw them in Aldi and just had to try and they are succulent. He's right!

Aldi are currently selling various pates for £1.49 in an oval container on the chilled food section near cheeses.

We tried the coarse pork and cranberry one and it was excellent. We have a couple of very posh delicatessens (one of them the royal visit regularly) around here and Aldis beat them hands down.

One of the reasons they can have lower prices is because of fewer staff in their stores = lower payroll.

I meant to reply to this weeks ago.

I checked in two branches of Aldi and bananas are 68p per kilogram, sold in wrapped bunches. You only pay 14p for loose ones left open in a box, which you're free to pull one from a bunch or as many as you like. Then there are the organic bananas, which also come in sealed bags and are individually priced by weight. And fun-sized bananas in a bag, etc.

So - Bananas are only 14p each if you want to buy them that way. If you just pick up a normal bunch in a bag, they're 68p/Kg.

Just home from Aldi with a great bargain! £2.99 for 300 ml jar of coconut oil. In Holland and Barrett their CO is £16.55 for a 500 ml jar!!! Both are organic, 100% raw and approved by various organic bodies.

It has a shelf life until dec 2017.

I got a couple of these yesterday. Asda and Waitrose both sell similar (275ml) for around a fiver so not sure what's so special about H&B's!

I've had some spectacular steaks from Aldi - Ribeye if they have any, sirloin if not. But I hate the way they shrink-wrap them. So har to get into.

I've had a couple of rump steaks and although they were a decent size, price and taste there was too much sinue compared to the streaks I usually get from ASDA,.

There is no difference ... They're both 100% raw, organic coconut oil. H and B can charge £16.55 because some people will pay that because they think their store is "healthy" and therefore the best. I must admit until yesterday I had never seen coconut oil in Aldi, so I suppose many people wouldn't think to go there to buy it.

I wouldn't pay £16+ I always wait until I get a half price coupon but even that is a whole lot more than Aldi.

What are you using it for? Just curious.

We use it as a substitute for vegetable/olive oil when frying/roasting or baking but it can be used for loads of stuff.

Google 'coconut oil uses', there are dozens of articles about it and suggestions on how to use it. Everything from hair gel, moisturiser and make up remover to sweetener for smoothies (i'lll be trying this one tomorrow!) spread for toast and WD40 substitute!

Anyway got to go, going to make some sweet popcorn (made with coconut oil of course)

Yes, I know most of the cosmetic uses, was just wondering if you were buying it for culinary use.

Aldi have just started selling egg custard tarts.

They're 85p for four, and taste lovely. They're easily as good as the M&S equivalent and better than some other supermarkets.

If you ever think the pastry in some supermarket custard tarts is a bit thin and soggy, Aldi's are definitely for you - Perfectly dry and have a nice bite to them.

With Burns Night coming up Aldi are going to be selling haggis and other Scottish related things in their special buys this Sunday.

We had some assorted things last year and all were good.
Will be picking them up again this year.

Only thing that is a bit odd is they seem to do if a week early!

In my store it's a bit hit and miss but their whole chickens are always very nice. Personally, I prefer lidl over aldi

I can't say the new Aldi website is very good. Everything I want to go to is hidden away behind surplus pages and pop-up menus.

And it's slow. If I click the back button, there's a delay before the images re-appear. Another website messed up for tablet users, I assume.

After being an Aldi customer for a year now I think the key is to accept that their range of items for sale will change and you cant guarantee that your favourites will always be there.
I have downloaded their app and keep an eye out for their special items. I love their cast iron pots and pans and and their running/cycling wear is good too.

The one thing I would be really upset if they stopped stocking is their smoked salmon with the honey mustard sauce. I get that for a wee treat. It is delicious and a fraction of the price elsewhere.

I have noticed that some of their own brand (Village?) bakery goods can be a bit cardboardy. I have tried their muffins and crumpets but only get them when I'm tightening my belt. They are certainly edible but prefer Warbies.

Finally, Aldi have updated their premium coleslaw packaging to have a film glued over the top.

No longer will I place the packet as level as I can in my bag, only to find that it's tilted on the way home and half the coleslaw liquid has spilt out over everything else.

I suppose this time next month, it'll cost 10p more, but at least I'll no longer unpack shopping that looks like it's straight out of a kinky porn film.

Whitley Neill Gin, which can be found in many a decent bar and sells in Sainsbury's for £24 a bottle, is a bargain £17.95 in Aldi.

If you're going to use it for cooking you might as well buy the 125ml tubs from Superdrug for about £3. There'll be absolutely no discernible difference.

Fresh bakery section, all sold individually... Utterly and disgracefully addicted to:

White chocolate & cranberry muffins
Banoffee muffins
White chocolate & macadamia (I think?) nut cookies

The 'specially selected' Irish cream (not the cheaper Ballycastle stuff) is sublime and just as good as Baileys - and I am an authority!

Here's a gripe though... The fresh salmon fillets are excellent but I find recently the fridges are full of the end cuts of the fillet - as in, the wedge shaped bit at the end which cooks unevenly, is thinner and because of larger surface area has more skin which is a pain to remove. Literally today there were boxes and boxes of packets of salmon, all of which were these pieces.
Anyone else had this issue? Cheaper for them to purchase I guess?
