I must say I'm a recent convert to Aldi. I only spent 80 quid on my grocery shop this week, I could easily spend 30-40 quid more in Morrison's.

Found out they also have peppered ham.

It says trimmings but mostly it's thick round pieces.

I've been using quite a lot of feta cheese in recent months and out of all I've tried the one I get from Aldi is the best one. I think it's only 75p but beats ones more than double that price.

I'm somewhat disappointed to hear on the news today that Aldi are recalling some of their edible products due to "pest contamination". Is that a spin doctor way of saying rats or mice have been shitting and pissing on them or their ingredients? Apparently, these things are made in a South African factory, which clearly has problems, despite posting the following text on their website until it was removed:

Hi. I thought that it the Teeside facility that was where the problem was. Aldi have cut ties with that supplier in all lines for now. It is good that they are taking strong action.

There has been a change in their best range of deli meats, 2 packs i picked up, 1 was a sliced chorizo nice but nothing special, but the other was an Italian salami with fennel, wow! that is pretty tasty, i've been a fan of papa Johns Italian sausage with fennel, for a while and in this deli sliced pack of salami at 1.79 seems a bargain

We often use Aldi. We go there for and enjoy:

Brioche buns for burgers
Chilled burgers
Cheese
Some of their wines are great.
Gin (I think it won a silver award one year)
Shamareto
Hot dog pickle relish (so so good)
Chocolate or vanilla brioche loaves
Deli meats

We don't buy any other meats from there. The bacon and chicken we find awful quality and beef mince really fatty. The fresh fruit and veg doesn't last as long either.

I have to say that I approve of the range chosen for Aldi's summer beer festival.

I had some wild boar and some venison salami from there recently, the wild boar was especially delicious.

Not food, but Aldi nappies are excellent, better than pampers and under half the price.

One thing about Aldi's beers is that they are regionalised; up here in Scotland we get lots of small Scottish craft brewers.

Not sure what they've done to their snackrite crisps but they ain't what they used to be

Anyone else having trouble getting Benefit cereal with red fruit? I thought maybe stock was low but now there's no shelf edge price as if they've stopped making it.

This is one of the annoying things about Aldi. When they're out of stock of regular items, they often remove the label. This makes it hard to work out whether they're simply out of stock or have discontinued it. I've had the same problem recently with their frozen salmon fillets. Asking a member of staff just results in the usual identikit answer of "I don't know, try again tomorrow after we have another delivery."

Between that and them constantly moving things around the stores, you sometimes think you imagined seeing a certain product on your last visit when you can't find any trace of it the next time you're in.

I like aldi's white bread mix, and have not been able to get it in either of the 2 aldi's near me for a couple of weeks. I messaged them and was told it was a seasonal product ?.

My MIL thinks Aldi bacon is the nicest she has tasted in ages and we always have to take some for her - probably depends which one you bought.

I find it equally as good as Lidl's, and they're both the only bacon I will buy. So if a Lidl is easier to get to on the way to you MiL, try that instead.

But you need to get Aldi's "Specially Selected" or Lidl's "Deluxe" brands rather than the cheap rashers.

A similar thing goes for the other meats and minces etc. I find the standard mince lacking in taste and full of gristle, but their Aberdeen Angus steak mince is absolutely lovely. It's £3.69 for 500g in both Aldi and Lidl, but Lidl also do it in 250g packets for £1.89. It's much better than the £4 500g packets of mince you get from the big supermarkets.

Someone on here tipped us on to Benefit cereal.

In their premium cheese range they have a cheddar with a strength rating of 7 It's very good, but in all honesty it doesn't taste any stronger than their regular extra mature, although that's stronger than I've been able to find anywhere else.

Clancey's pistachio nuts are good and very good value.

Aldi have some excellent perfectly ripe Haas avocados - 89p each. bargain!

This year's early English strawberries have been good so far, though slightly mixed. They've just switched to larger 400g boxes of Kentish strawberries for 10p less than the previous 227g boxes and they're absolutely lovely! Clearly getting into season now.

Lidl's are never quite as nice.

My main reason for going into Lidl was to buy their luxury fruit & not muesli, but I now find that Aldi are stocking exactly the same product (only in a box) and have price matched it at £1.69.

That cheese (£2.15 in Aldi) appears to be exactly the same cheese that Waitrose is selling for £4.
