I like their frikadellen, wiener schnitzel, sliced baked ham, titan bars and their Dominion clear fruits and mints they have at the checkout

Went to friends' for dinner and they served a Pinot Noir from Aldi; it won't challenge those bottles costing £50 to £60 or more - but it is palatable and easy drinking. Another worth considering is Aldi Temporanillo.
I bought a few bottles of both. |

How much did these bottles cost?
Their own brand Toro Loca Temperanillo impressed the experts sufficiently to give it a silver award - beating some wines costing 5 or 6 times more. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...nal-award.html |

I tried their barbecue ribs tonight. A little bit sweet but a nice , slightly hot after taste. Nine ribs with loads of meat on all of them, more than I've ever had on M&S or Tesco ribs for £2.99. Will definitely buy again.

We switched our habits 3 months ago (when our local branch opened), from alternating Tescos/Morrisons fortnightly with an occasional Aldi to Aldi weekly and Morrisons/Tescos once a month for the bits we couldn't get.
Dropped the weekly food bill by nearly £35 immediately (including vouchery stuff). Yes, we still need to do Morrisons or Tescos for things they sell Aldi doesn't (Caffeine free cokes and good quality fresh meats are an example) and special offers. But generally their ranges are just as good quality. So what if it has a French or German label - it's the same stuff from international companies, and some of the Continental brands are shamefully better that or UK equivalents. If they ever get a meat department sorted on the same level, they'd kill the competition - and in a fairly snobby area too. Our local Sainsbury's now looks like an advert for perms for the over-60s, and I fully expect them to do 2-4-1 on tumbleweed any day now. There's enough blowing down the aisles. You cannot go wrong on their continental meat selection. Have you ever tried their Casa Borelli foccacia? To kill for. And the wines are just plain insanely dumb cheap - if you have a slight mind for good cheap quality you'd not even make it home with some of it (not to mention the rarely seen Fundador brandy - though I wouldn't advise it ).Even the dog is more than happy with her new food and extraordinarily cheap treats!!! Complete no brainer unless you're too snobbish to park next to the BMWs, Mercs and Range Rovers currently blocking my local ... |

I bought a sliced French Brioche loaf to make a bread and butter pudding with, but ended up eating it straight from the bag during my once-a-month-sugar-fest

We've always bought brand name orange squash but Aldi's double strength orange squash is the nicest I've ever tasted.
We probably go to Aldi twice a month and stock up on certain things. Their washing up liquid, washing powder, conditioner, cereals, chilled pizzas, tinned tomatoes are all excellent and cheaper than the other supermarkets. We still tend to get meat, veg, etc from Morrisons. |

Occasionally, I buy a normal sized bottle of gin from Aldi, and it's very nice for the price.
However, last week I bought a 1L bottle, which is a special size they don't normally stock but have a limited batch of, and I'm sure it doesn't taste as nice. It smells more like a marker pen and the alcohol is the main taste rather than the juniper. Is it just my imagination or has anyone else tried a 1L bottle and thought the same, compared to the normal 70cl bottles? |

Snackrite 6 pack of crisps, 69p- as good as Walkers. Viennese Whirls, lovely with a cuppa. Not keen on the Gnocchi though, pretty awful. |

Wine gums are good also. Nearly Maynards standard but much cheaper.

I tried the wine gums in Lidl before and they were OK but weak tasting. In fact they tasted more of gelatin than fruit. But I just tried the ones in Aldi based on the above post and they're lovely! I also tried the jelly babies (which were good) and the Liquorice Allsorts, which weren't so good. I think the Lidl ones may be better, from what I remember of them. I certainly remember them being better than Bassets - the round coconut ones are still made from desiccated coconut rather than that horrible sugar paste Bassets switched over to.
I noticed that their 99p stone-baked frozen pizzas have new packaging... and that they've slyly reduced the four cheese one from 350g to 325g. I haven't bought one yet, so I don't know if it's a new recipe too. The old ones were unbelievably good for 99p. I also tried one of their their large, square "take-away" pizzas for £1.99 and wasn't that impressed. It was ok, but they scrimped with the topping and the overall taste wasn't as good as the 99p ones. I've also tried both sherry and port from Aldi and have to say they're not as good as Lidl. They both taste nice, and are marginally stronger than Lidl's, but the sherry tastes like an up-market version of their fortified wine. It has a sugary sweetness. Lidl's has a honey sweetness. I miss 1970s Emva Cream! Aldi's port has a more obvious alcohol taste to it and is extremely fruity. It's almost like drinking an alcoholic Ribena or something. Lidl's port tastes like a normal red wine but very sweet in a good way. Both are good and perfectly drinkable, it's just a matter of whether you want to taste sweet red wine or alcoholic fruit juice. I've also tried pre-rolled puff pastry from both Aldi and Lidl. Aldi's is miles better! Very little grease comes out of it when I cook it, unlike Lidl's which practically ended up frying in a sea of its own grease rather than baking. I notice on the ingredients that Aldi's is made with margarine whereas Lidl's only lists vegetable oil. I wish they did an all-butter puff pastry. Oh, and Aldi are doing a 500g flat box of dark/milk/white chocolate biscuits for £2.99 which is clearly a clone of one M&S are currently doing. At the moment, the M&S ones are on sale for £3 and are nicer with a better selection, so you may as well get them. However, they're normally £6, so the Aldi ones are worth it normally. Some of the biscuits are the same as the M&S ones, so I assume they come from the same factory. |

I used to buy Aldi Redcurrant Puff Biscuits for about 75p for 100g Now I can only get them in M&S
£1.25 for 100g. Exactly the same packaging. |

Aldi Connoisseur Christmas Pud tops the taste list for the second year running and it's luxury Champagne Christmas Pud placed second - beating Harrods, Fortnum and Mason, Waitrose and M&S etc.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/money/person...t-aldi-2652344 If I hadn't made my own I would get me down to Aldi. |

Their jaffa cakes are immense. As is the Kooliburra Australian Shiraz.
I also bought a pack of six tuna steaks in there the other day for a bargain £1.99. |
