Quality Streets...£3.99....
Morrisons were selling the standard size box for 99p last week.

The good:
Special offers on fruit & veg are great (e.g. standard-sized celery for 50p, compared with around £1 in most places). They sometimes have huge (10kg?) bags of potatoes for only a few quid.
Bramwells Mayonnaise is as good as Hellmans and much cheaper.
Feta cheese is decent and cheaper than most others.
Tinned tuna is cheaper than most.
Wine is pretty good, though it seems to have gone up recently.
Good quality chocolate for around 60p/100g, again cheaper than most other own brands.
Caster sugar.

The bad:
Breakfast cereals I've tried from there have been a touch more expensive than equivalents and of lower quality.
Tried a cheap frozen pizza from there once and it was revolting: over-sweet sauce and cheese that didn't melt nor taste of anything.
Other frozen meals have been fine, though.

I prefer Lidl, but have noticed that Aldi is selling pretty much the same items these days.

As well as the frozen pizzas recenly being reduced in weight for the same price, I just noticed the 400g bags of sweet crunch salad have been reduced to 370g. I don't know when it dropped or whether the other salad bags have been reduced too, though I assume so.

A lot of prices have gone up in Aldi in recent months too.

Amazingly, Aldi has reduced the price of their Ballycastle(?) Irish cream from £5.99 to £4.19! Tastes the same to me.

I always get this as well - it's never been £5.99 in mine though, it's usually £4.90 something.

You're confusing the normal one that used to be £3.99 but went up to £4.29, with the premium version they occasionally stock for £5.99.

Lidl do the same thing, though their 'Dulux' version is £6.49.

No better tipple to drink at home in preparation for painting the town red.

Anybody know if Aldi have changed the weight of their lamb shanks. I don't eat meat but bought one for my MIL for the first time in ages and she said it was just the right size for her NOW. When I looked properly it really was small - all bone and not much meat.

Just had one of their 'light' hot chocolates. The downside is that they come in individual packets instead of a jar (which I feel means you get slightly less), however I guess that's actually a bonus if you want to take them to work or something.

The upside is that they're delicious! Far better than the Options Mint Hot Chocolate. Rich, Creamy, 8 for 99p.

These are lovely and I'm not a massive fan of hot chocolate.

I tried the leek and potato soup the other week, the fresh one in the chiller. Hmmmm its delicious.

Their Moser Roth brand Dark Chocolate, cherry-chilli flavour. £1.09. Lovely, 85% cocoa too. It looks like one large bar, but is 5 individual bars inside. Bargain

I did my weekly shop in Aldi for the first time this week. I got the shopping I normal get at Asda, obviously substituting the Aldi brands for my normal brands. I was very pleasantly surprised that it saved me nearly £40!! We hare halfway through the week of 'taste testing' and nothing has come out worse, lots of things are even better than the brands I used to buy in Asda. In particular;

Norpak butter, to me is better than Lurpak,
Bramwells tomato ketchup
The crisps, forgot the name better than Walkers
A garlic baguette for 60p forgot the make again.

Anyway I am so chuffed with the saving and that everything is tasting the same or better. It's Aldi for me every time now.

Cheap sprouts at Christmas time, good on them!!

Has anyone ever seen negative media about Aldi, they really do seem to be the good guys of the food retail sector.

No. Infact they're regularly voted best supermarket and best products in comparisons etc.

The only negatives i've seen are on messageboard with people slagging them off, probably snobbishly because they were the budget supermarket with strange foreign and unknown brands.

The only thing I dont like is the purse seine fishing methods they use. I bought a load of different fish products and all were purse seine Should have read before I purchased. I'm quite surprised by this as as Aldi are product and ingrediant cruely free.

I can't understand why Aldi don't sell the chocolate orange hot chocolate sachets any more. They had them as a limited edition about two years ago but they were so good that I thought they were bound to become a regular item. I won't normally buy that kind of thing because they usually make them far too sweet, but these were delicious.

Tried their highly rated Xmas Mince Pies which are supposedly topping the taste tests, found they had more casing than filling though. Bit disappointing.

I had a packet of vegetable crisps from Aldi the other day. They were delicious, infact I couldn't tell them apart from the vegetable crisps some airlines use in first class!
