Just seen this, thought it was a joke at first

Don't really see the point since the 3DS has a slider...

Is it not aimed at young kids. My son isn't old enough just yet for a 3ds and I would be worried with how young he is with the 3d slider so easy to switch on by himself. This would be perfect if he asked for one. Although personally I would have preferred it to still shut for carrying about.

Its in the settings, you can turn it off so they can't adjust it

This really takes the biscuit, its like nintendo thought coming up with something terrible would make the WiiU seem like a better option

There is a parental lock on the 3DS to stop kids from turning on the 3D.

It is the ugliest console I have ever seen. What's the 3DS boxart going to say now? The name 2DS is just going to lead to confusion.

Never knew that although haven't had to look in to it just yet can't be too far away though. That does make this a bit defunct then.

Why is that?

They've created a budget hand-held console for children and people who can't see the 3D. It will sell well.

Very good value too. 10 more than an OUYA, or the price of two PS4 controllers.

Wow that has to be the ugliest hand held nintendo have released to date. Also the form factor is really stupid, it is massive and IMO it would make far more sense to stick to the standard DS form factor.

I have been interested in a 3DS for a while and planned to buy one for the next Zelda but I certainly wont be getting this even though I have no plans to use the 3D feature.

It's not for me. I rather have a 3DS XL. But it is a cheaper DS model, that plays all DS games.

It's not much cheaper than the original small 3DS, plus the 3D can be turned off on the 3DS.

I can't believe they named a console in honour of our recent fallen forum member.

By calling it 2DS it looks like they are moving away from 3D.

2DS is low risk name, as it plays all DS games. So when the next nintendo handheld comes: the
4DS - they can drop the orignal DS support quite easily.

I hope they implement spacetime better than they did 3D

Why was he banned anyway? I disagreed with many things he said but I don't recall him breaking any forum rules.

I just don't get how anyone can think this is a good idea

Any game developed for the 3DS will no longer have any 3D because people who bought the 2DS will complain

Hell even games that i've waited for years to arrive on the 3DS such as Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright will be a watered down 2D version

The 3DS is now as pointless as the something like the Megadrive 2

I've no idea and some posts we made saying the same stuff you've said there got removed - so it remains a mystery!

It's just another option in the DS model range.
Nintendo will still produce 3DS amd 3DSXL.

But it does indicate, as I said earlier that they are probably slowly moving away from 3D.

Eh? Why would the devs remove the 3D? I can see them not bothering to add it in the first place (but they can do that now - Steamworld Dig is entirely in 2D), but nobody who owns a 2DS is going to complain if the games aren't in 3D, and nobody is going to stop making games in 3D because of the 2DS (as 3D games will happily work in 2D mode or on the 2DS.

I actually think this is a reasonable idea - remove the 3D screen and put a 2D one in, sell it a bit cheaper for people who don't want or can't see the 3D effect.

However, the design is HORRIBLE. What were they thinking?!? Where are the shoulder buttons anyway? Why didn't they make it foldable like the 3DS, rather than this monstrosity?

I don't see the problem with it. It's kinda funky and really for the smaller kiddies. Can see it doing well this Christmas.

Well I think it is unfair that the UK price is 110 which when converted into American Dollars is $170 but yet they are only paying $130??? Logic is somewhat out the window here. And if you convert what they are paying into GBP then it is about 84 so Americans have the best price as UK has to pay around 30/$40 more.
