I know there's already a Diablo III thread... but it's buried within PC/Mac gaming, so I put this one here for the console version.

The 360/PS3 version of Diablo III is due out on the 3rd of September.

Eurogamer just gave it 9/10:

I think I'll be avoidable. Already have it on my PC. Not only that, but to me, the UI just looks so messy on the console ports.

Eurogamer, the true source of ad sponsored reviews haha. But anyway, part of me hopes the game works better on the consoles, if only to find a new home. Because the PC doesnt want the pile of shit anymore, and its "let me live in your wallet and eat your money" ideals would suit the microshift gaming console nicely. Might cause fights on who gets to rip people off more.

The game is dead, and this game should have been a super hit. Diablo 2 is still played by a hardcore following today, it was a giant monster of a game that MANY games copied to death after it, never quiet bringing the sublime greatness. Diablo 3 was so utterly crap, I did a charge back on my blizzard account (I did the wow for a year, free diablo 3 copy) and it was so shite that I killed all connection to blizzard. That real action house was a good idea, as was the need for a constant connection. Not bothering to include PVP for ages after release was also another stroke of god damn genius, as was the general boring nature of the game. All they did was copy diablo 2, they ended up doing the same as the rest of the pretenders.

(Oddly enough, if you want a good Diablo fix in modern times, Torchlight 2 is made by the same people who worked on diablo, and is a better game, and its a fraction of the cost and is moddable, so loads of free levels and stuff. Also Path Of Exiles gets banded about a lot, but I havent played it so I cannot say, looks decent enough at least)

The console version has had very good reviews...

Also, the console version benefits from:

- No need for a Battle.net account.

- No always-online requirement.

- Offline mode, including co-op.

- No Auction House.

Apologies, hadn't seen this thread prior to launching my own Diablo 3 topic earlier.

Yep, looking useful this with some excellent early reviews. Hoping PSN offer a competitive price on it next week and it shalt be bagged!

The Torchlight series are quality. Titan Quest and the Dungeon Siege Trilogy are also strong ARPG titles. Last time I checked the latter was a ridiculous 3.74 on Steam. But of course, these are almost all PC exclusive. So I'm delighted to see DIII on consoles and it appears to be a hefty improvement on the generally unpopular PC release.

I could never get into mouse/keyboard controls on the PC.

I'm interested in Diablo 3, but the pad control is the breaker for me.
If it plays like a more fancy version of Balder's Gate on the PS2 then I might buy it.

To be honest I hope it has sorted itself out and finds a good home on the consoles, would be shame to let a great (for the most part) series fail because of what was mostly technical issues and some bad design choices (I think the core is great)

(I also hope the control scheme is something similar to Sacred 2 on the 360, sort of between old diablo (clicky) and maybe fable (more direct control).

DIII PSN - 50

It does looks rather nice. But not at 50 notes!

Ah well, there's always Torchlight 1 and 2.. Dungeon Siege 1, 2 and 3.. Titan Quest.. Bards Tale.. Plus the excellent Van Helsing. These Steam powered ARPG classics will comfortably satiate my Dungeon Crawling urges for the forseeable. Incidentally all eight of these fine titles cost around 15 quid less than a single Diablo 3 PSN download.

So I may bag the PS4 version which will no doubt be similarly priced, but crucially will be remote playable on PSV. Now that will be something a little bit special, while arguably halving the price.

My copy arrived on Saturday somewhat unexpectedly as I only got the dispatch email on the Friday. Haven't had much time with it yet but overall seems fun if a little shallow - prefer it to Dungeon Siege 3 which I never got into on 360.

Haven't tried online co op yet - well tried but I suppose unsurprisingly since it isn't supposed to be out until tomorrow hardly anyone was playing it!

I hoping the co-op mode will be good, will try to get the wife in on the act, if she can work out which way she should be walking and fighting etc...lol, but will wait for the PS4 version.

Just wanted to clarify that the above is based on Steam sale prices

As mentioned gonna wait for PS4/Vita combo on this one. A little more cost effective, plus it'll be truly immersive on PSV. But I look forward to reading how this one plays, runs and looks. Shame about the PSN price and I don't do disks. But like I say plenty to be getting on with in the Steam-Box ARPG genre. Currently dabbling with The Adventures of Van Helsing which I'd highly recommend.

Bought it on PS3 from Asda today.
Played for a hour or so. Good old fashioned Baldur's Gate type button basher. As I expected.

Please don't ever say Baldur's Gate is a button basher. The version you are referring to is "Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance" which is a PS2/Xbox game. "Baldur's Gate" and its sequel are RPG PC games and are quite possibly two of the greatest games ever created. They are works of art.

^^^ thanks you've cleared that up for me too... keep thinking I don't remember BG being a button basher when I played it on the PC many moons ago.

Sorry, I meant the PS2/ Xbox games. Diablo 3 is similar with much better graphics and a lot more menu's.

I like it. I didn't think button basher was so offensive, nothing wrong with a dumbed down game to accompany a few beers.

Just had a light Diablo dabble via the equally light 1.2.GB PSN demo released today. Yep, all is good. Very slick loading, smooth frames and a very intuitive, clean control mech. I mentioned previously 50 quid is a fair way north of decent, but this is a certain PS4/PSV combo buy next Spring or so.

Demo? I'm checking it out then. Agree the price is arse, so its one for the future.

I can't decide without playing it whether the gameplay is going to be utterly mundane or immensely addictive. I'm also thinking the multiplayer aspect (both split screen and online) will be the real strong point of the game? Although i'm new to Diablo so might be stating the obvious/completely missing the point.
