Sometimes weird things go on with sizes, trust me.
I was once buying pants, and usually I need XS or S (extra-small or small) But there was only XS, and it was too tight, so I picked the next smallest size, and it fit perfect. Looked at the label, and it was a Large
(Here in the Netherlands we have XS, S, M (medium), L, XL, and XXL, for reference. )
My point is that sizes don't seem to be a standard, and can apparently be fiddled with.
