Did you buy it off ebay? If so it has probably been reported stolen or lost and blocked?

Call your network either way and confirm if the imei has been black listed.

could easily be a faulty sim
or could just as easily be a faulty phone

backup the phone and do a factory restore.

If you go into the carrier menu and take it off automatic.. does it find networks after a few minutes?

Try this, go to settings, general, then reset at the bottom, click on reset network settings, worth a try.

Failing that you said you've tried other sims, so try doing a full restore in itunes, make sure its backed up to the pc or icloud first

Likely the handset is faulty.

Try this:

Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Date & Time set your local date & time manually.

Then Go to Settings > Airplane Mode on, wait 20 seconds, then > Airplane mode off.

It could be that the antenna contact has come loose inside the phone.

I had an iphone 4 which showed 'no service' & 'searching' and after many hours of internet searching found no results. A mate of mine then took the back off and found the antenna contact had come loose.

He clicked it back in place and the phone worked fine.

Could be worth a try.

Steve.

This is/was a well known issue. I had it too and finally after a couple of swaps apple gave me a new iPhone result.
