Have they dumped the TOWIE rubbish, then?

Please say they have? The Only Way Is Essex style editing they brought in the year before last or whenever it was just didn't work on any level.

I am liking the show so much better as it is presented to us this episode. I hope they stick with it.

A step in the right direction if they have.

Looks like they have, and thank God.

It made the show truly unwatchable, don't you think? I really hope this means they actually listened to the viewers for a change in terms of feedback.

Don't tell me I spoke too soon - it seems a watered down version of it may still be in use.

Last year I didn't really watch it as it seemed to focus too much on particular contestants at their houses.

Yes very staged back stage conversations - and can people in the waiting room see the auditions? It looked that way on J star's audition

I hate it so much. Why do they think it works even slightly? It's so forced.

Much more toned down definitely compared to last year (where the acting was also atrocious - at least here it's convincing).

Yes it's much better this year. No more shots of staged conversations over a cup of coffee or a mother driving her son to his audition.

Yes, I'm very glad those aspects are gone. I also hope we don't get anything with contestants in their houses as it tends to really give it away when it comes to who will make it to the Lives.

I still didn't like the backstage TOWIE style editing though. I just want it to go back to Dermot and the contestants chatting, none of this scripted reality rubbish.

Well, there were conversations backstage, but they were kind of brief. They seemed very staged, like past shows. Not sure where the change is, it just seemed the same to me.

It was a lot worse last year. They have kept the backstage conversations which are annoying but last year it was full on scenes of contestants in their houses and on their journeys to the audition - at least now all the 'staged' stuff is mostly consigned to the actual audition venue itself.

True, but there was a bit about which suggests it's still present and will likely step up once the live shows and house scenes happen.

I much preferred the way tonight's audition show went compared to last year, not just the fact they were back in the room with the judges, but mainly because there didn't seem as much of the backstage drama which always just appeared set up. I hope it continues this way as the audition shows go on, including the arena stage.

That was certainly the impression we were meant to have. Those fake/edited in reaction shots from the other auditionees, ugh!

The editing was a LOT better than it was in previous years, like what's been said, showing too much of the auditionees sitting around making painfully awkward conversation, making their way to the arena, sitting in their bedroom looking wistful out the window, were all beginning to make the auditions unwatchable. I felt like I was watching an X Factor tonight that was mostly made up of singers, rather than TOWIE with ads and maybe 4 or 5 singers every now and then like we were watching for the past 2-3 years, and that was what they needed to do. Really impressed so far.

At least they didn't go about filming the acts at their homes which was pointless.

Although we haven't seen tonight's show yet...........which, if I understand it correctly, will feature the same contestants as last night (only the ones who got a 'yes' though); there's still a chance we'll see the TOWIE-style stuff.

I think the TOWIE-style filmimg was introduced first on BGT last year (2012) and was carried into X Factor, although I'm not sure. Can anyone remember if they did it on BGT this year? That might be a good indicator.

I do not like when the contestant enters the room, talks to the judges and lets cuts off to a video tape about the contestant. This spoils the flow, if they want to play the video tape do a traditional 'but there's one contestant who wants to win The X Factor the most' type introduction before the video tape. Other than that, the editing is far better so far.

I don't think they did so much this year.

Oh my God, the producers have actually been listening to fan feed-back.

Not quite 100% but please keep it up.

Watching Rylan go for a spray tan, the day before his first audition was the all time low for the X-Factor and the reason i gave up early last year.

I know its only show 1, but its an improvement on this time last year.
