Steve Brookstein, the first ever winner of The X Factor, has taken aim at judge Gary Barlow.

The former singer, who won the reality talent show in 2004, suggested that Barlow had been hypocritical over who's in charge of contestants' careers.

Brookstein tweeted on Friday (August 30): "One minute Gary Barlow tells Cowell not to mess up Leona Lewis' career, the next he says it's an artist's own fault if they don't succeed.

"Gary Barlow reminds me of a 1950s film star doing cigarette adverts for money. "Mmm They taste delicious and they're good for you!"

Speaking at the series 10 X Factor launch the day before, Barlow argued that the success of acts is ultimately down to them.

"After the competition is over they go off to Sony and we have no control over that. And the point is neither do Sony actually," said Barlow.

"How the acts go and where they choose to make a career is up to them. I know the show is based around us mentoring and helping, but it is heavily down to the acts when it comes to choosing their own destiny. We see some people get better and better, but we see other people get worse and worse - they make bad choices," added Barlow.

Brookstein later tweeted that he is leaving the social network until ITV cancels the show, joking: "I may be gone quite a long time."

What a shame if he leaves Twitter...what a travesty. I'm going to miss him and his hilarious comments.

I agree with some of his points, he just needs to calm down a bit, even though yeah, he can be funny sometimes.

Gary contradicts himself even in some of his critiques so that didn't shock me

What's Steve promoting this time?

He usually comes out with some anti-X-Factor crap every so often to stop people forgetting he exists.

The fact he is 100% right about liar Barlow doesn't seem important to some people

Everyone, everyone in celeb world lies except they never call it that.
Brookstein is a never has been, Gary has everything.
There is only one winner in that contest

Heh heh, I wonder how Brookstein will like being described as a 'former singer' in that piece?

To say Sony have no control over the artist is laughable, they do as they're told, everyone knows that!

Back in series 3, when Simon was on the panel, Gary was perfectly legitimate in saying that to Simon because Simon (/a panellist) would have a say in Leona's career afterwards. If I remember correctly, part of the original plan for the show would be that the mentors - all record-industry executives- would have some involvement in their act's career after the show if their act won.

Once they added non-music-executives to the panel, starting in series 4, they couldn't do that anymore; how was Dannii, Cheryl, Tulisa etc. supposed to manage a recording artist? That part of the show was quietly dropped and never mentioned again, although Simon's record label remains involved whether he himself is a part of the show or not.

Gary's comments are legitimate now whereas they wouldn't have been 7 years ago; likewise, Gary's comments 7 years ago were legitimate then but wouldn't be now (unless Simon was still part of the panel).

Steve's stirring sh*t; if he took the time to think about the differences in the show in the show in series 3 and the show in series 10 he'd realise that and keep quiet.
