There is still deadwood in EastEnders and there should be an episode where there is some kind of disaster where at least four or five characters are killed off - this could be done to get rid of the deadwood.

The R & R is a likely candidate as it desperately needs a makeover.

No. if you are putting in all that money, kill someone we actually care about. The "deadwood" should leave with a whimper not a bang, why should they get a decent send off?

Look at the Vic Fire - a bit of a waste nobody was killed off.

Exactly, Peggy should have burned to death inside it. Then Pat should of left on a high. They killed off the wrong matriarch.

The ideal candidate would be Billy as I feel he needs a decent exit. I just hope that DTC is planning exits for Joey, FatBoy, AJ, Tamwar, etc at the moment.

I wouldn't waste too much energy or screen time on getting rid of deadwood.
They can just disappear or leave with a minor explanation never to be seen again (moving to another city, sick relative abroad, trip around the world...)

I do agree- I think if there is some kind of disaster it would need to be bigger characters and my preference would be Alfie & Billy who I both think have had their day. The others can just leave. I agree with Scrabbler, the Vic fire was a waste as Peggy should have pegged it in that Fire it was a let down.

I am impatient I guess to see the back of crap characters like Joey, AJ, FatBoy, Kim etc..I just hope DTC gets rid of these poor characters.

No. Billy does not need to be killed off, any more of this nonsense and I shall send you back under your bridge.

Tricky decision, one man's deadwood is another man's underused character, if they did have a disaster then minor characters would be a bit predictable, we need surprise and shock otherwise no point in bothering.

On the other hand, if AJ, Dennybaby and Alice were to have a "little accident", then I would not be too disappointed..

A bit of creativity is all that is needed with EE, it still has a strong cast.

The next storyline should be : Dot wakes up after suffering a fall which resulted in a head injury only to realise that the last two years were all a dream and never really happened at all. Easy way to drop a lot of the deadwood. Bring back missed characters and return the soap to a place where people actually liked it.

I see no lies here vald. Brilliant post, but unfortunately this is always the case with this particular poster.

Exactly. The need for nearly every exit to be dramatic is really quite a tedious habit. It just seems like a massive waste of time to drag out some contrived tosh for a week or so just to say goodbye to a character who hasn't been worked on enough for anybody to give a toss about anyway. A simple "the landlord's put my rent up so I've found a new place in Peckham, you'll have to come over for a cup of tea sometime" would suffice.

Up until the Lexi story, a lot of people were saying Lola was deadwood.
Rubbish characters can be just one good story away from being a good character...unless your name is Dexter.

I disagree Danielle has proved she can act and I don't see that with the likes of David Witts and Khalid Best.

I don't mind "background" characters (i.e those that don't have big storylines), such as Ajay, but I can't understand the attraction of Kim, Sam and Ava.

Cut it back to 2 episodes a week. All the ''deadwood'' will be cleared to make room for the major characters. EastEnders was at its best before all the supporting deadwood was added to accommodate the extra 2 episodes.

I do think the R & R should have a huge explosion, look at the Dog fire, they killed off the deadwood and it still goes down as probably the best fire out there in soaps. Just make sure the deadwood are gone, then we get the R & R back to a good club and have a strong cast again. I'm thinking:

Joey
Alice
AJ
Tamwar
Kim
Sam
Dexter
Fatboy
Poppy
Whitney

I would keep Whitney. I think the actress is one of the strongest out of the young ones, along with Lauren. Far better than the one who plays Lucy in my view. I think Shona is a brilliant actress, so doesn't deserve to be axed in my opinion. I am no keen on Joey and Dexter, but like all the others on the list. I do not want to see anyone axed though, just because I do not like them.

I think Shona proved what a good Actress she is during the August 2 episode which was the far the best episode of the year, however I think Whitney has reached a natural end as a character and Whitney deserves a happy ending.

I love Poppy and would keep her but the rest from that list I agree with.
