No idea whether this comment will ever get read, so low is the interest in Sam on here, but here goes. Whatever Sam's target audience is, it's clearly not the majority demographic posting on DS. I would guess middle aged folk who like good songs well sung, and aren't interested in what's fashionable. (That would be me) Possibly the Buble/Josh Groban audience, or people who like West End musicals. (And I am not suggesting the WE is Sam's future, I have no idea whether she can act, for a start, and if she wanted to go that way, I guess she'd have tried it already)
I can't think offhand of a similar aged female to Sam who falls in that category, (other than existing WE singers) most are either older, or current commercially successful singers who became stars when they were young, and have now been around for a few years, so maybe there is a gap?
Material is often mentioned in connection with Sam - while looking on Youtube I found recordings she has made for a team of songwriters based in London, it seems she was their main demo singer, if not recently then a few years back. There are two original songs of theirs on Youtube,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7rEKehiLqk and if you then go to the songwriters own website, samples of about 8 others, all unreleased. It would seem therefore that Sam does have access to original material, if Syco and these folks do a deal, or later if Syco do the usual and drop Sam after 1 album.
If they do use any of their songs, it may explain why she is releasing an album so much earlier than recent winners, because she has original songs immediately available rather than the more depressing idea that they just give her a covers album. I will be interested to see what's on the album when it comes out.
One of the songwriters posted on the Youtube thread that she was his favourite singer to write for, but he didn't have any 'clout' in the music industry to get her a record contract as she didn't fit the preferred image. The X Factor publicity may not make her a second Leona, and definitely not an Adele/Gaga/Beyoncé etc, but it should give her the chance to sell a few hundred thousand albums and fill theatres, not arenas, in concert. Given the age of her children, she probably would be more than happy with that level of success.
