Nicola ED always threatened with the sack
It amazes me how many times Nicola from Emmerdale has been threatened with sack from Declan and Megan. They have caught her blabbing work related and private issues on numerous occassions, she gets threatened with the sack, and then the next episode she is at it again

![]() They evidently value her work, or they would have got rid. I think they just say it to remind her that she's lucky she has a job, but it does seem to happen every week. Carla in Corrie used to do the same when I watched. It must be the soap writers way of showing us what a tough boss someone is. It's quite old fashioned though. I can't see many employers, even small businesses, doing that these days (except of course as banter) because of the risk of charges of bullying, and industrial tribunals. Added to that, they've got to give umpteen verbal and written warnings nowadays, haven't they?Welcome to DS by the way .

One day they will sack her, and won't that be a huge shock to her system!

![]() Nicola is threatened with the sack almost as often as 'Enders' Tiresome Billy. ![]() ![]() Unlikely the way things are going, but wouldn't it be brilliant if KneeCo and Jimmy somehow ended up as owners of Home Farm? KneeCo could get back to her attempted occasionally homicidal roots, looking down her nose at the whole village, while poor Jimmy tries in vain to keep the peace. Make it happen ED!

But lovely KneeCo is lovely. Tiresome Billy is just an oxygen thief.

Although my dream scenario would involve Declan getting booted out by a wealthy-once-again Nathan Wylde. |

Oh yeah, Nicola as a snotty madam, lording it over everyone else would be fantastic. She does that already, mind, but at least she'd have some justification if she was, as they call it in Glendarroch, 'The Lady Laird.' In fact she' probably take that title

She seems to always be laughing, then Declan or Megan threaten her with the sack and then she puts a bland look on her face and sits at her computer.

![]() In fact didn't she AND David try to bump off Donald? What a weird weird thing to imagine now in a totally deranged time for the show! Mind you, under Oates, it would probably work well! |

Christ no, remember the last time they made her this way with the DeSouza clan? Nicola suddenly becoming all powerful bitch with intents on bumping off rich hubby in increasingly "hilarious" ways. Worst thing they ever did to the character! And totally bizarre, now forgotten, and back to being original Nicola again.

I like how Nicola has gone from being involved in drama filled stories like Angel being taken by Carl's partner I think to being more of a young comedy character.
I think they should do this with Ashley. |

I didn't see it at that time, I've only heard the story. Was it a rubbish 'so called comedy plot' then? How disappointing! That's the kind of thing that's entertaining if it's done in an arch, Dynasty-esque way.
![]() It was all very un-Nicola, who slowly became more like old Nicola once the story was over, and there was zero sense of drama. But that happened a lot in parts of 2007/08. |

I'm so glad someone started this thread. I cant believe how many times staff are threatened with the sack in soaps. Nicola is a bit of a madam but surely she doesn't deserve the amount of sack threats. And on Monday, the three of them were threatened by that awful Macey sister just because they were discussing the Declan and the body. How can you be sacked for gossiping.

Why does she act like she is totally skint?
She has that lovely big house that Carl left them with no mortgage Jimmy must be making an ok living from the haulage firm She'd survive If she got sacked while looking for another job! |

I like that she values her job, it'd be easy for her to be like 'I don't even NEED this, my man has a job!'
She's a working Momma that's successful and I like it. |

I think the business goes through times when it doesn't do well, and Nicola worries about this. They seem to have the odd financial crisis . I couldn't imagine Nicola coping well with a drop in her living standards.

She certainly likes to snarl at people when she is on the phone. As well as snarling at Sam.
![]() If she lost the job she'd have to restrict her bitchiness to Jimmy and random passers-by, and that wouldn't be half as fulfilling for her
