*Nothing* will get 12-13 million live viewers any more apart from stuff like major sporting events and *maybe* series finales. That's just the way TV is now.

With a peak of 10.2m, I imagine ITV will be more than pleased with the result, especially as it's up on last year.

Bring back Simon, Dannii and Cheryl and you'll see those ratings again.

It got 9.2m with +1 so comfortably up on last years opener with a lot more positivity around this one, so there appears to be more potential to grow.

Series 6 launched with 9.9m and that was the series that first saw the ratings go sky high. I wouldn't say 12-13m is out of the question, it will be a massive struggle and it probably won't happen this year, but it is definitely achievable in the future if they play it right.

It's up 7% from last year, 9.2m (inc +1). The first time the show has posted a year on year improvement since the fourth auditions episode in 2011. Since bootcamp 2011, every single episode has been down double digit percentages from the year before. So it's a big, and much needed, turnaround.

It's definitely a solid figure, especially considering how the ratings dipped last year. The changes the show had made for this series may just be enough to resurrect it to it's former glory. Even looking at the first set of auditions, there were only about 3 or 4 joke acts out of about 16 performances. Definitely more singing too. The quality of acts and the quality of the editing has increased tenfold from last year.

Bodes well for a good series me thinks

Ah that's great, it proves that there was good enough hype around the show to get people into the first episode.

Not only that but c'mon this launch was amazingly good compared to most of them! It's going to only get better I would think!

I think the best improvement made this year is that there were about 16-20 auditions shown last night and it was more even. Before, you were lucky to see 4 and a handful of montages.

Definitely looking good for 2013 after the first episode!

It really was and I agree it'll definitely carry on climbing. It felt like it was on its last legs last series, so there'll be plenty of what I'd call, on the fence/"meh" viewers from last time around, who will be persuaded to tune in next week when word of mouth gets round that it's so much better!

It's a solid start and perhaps more importantly it's UP on last year's launch which is a major reversal of trends after the declines of the last couple of years. Where it goes from here is anyone's guess but I think it's the best start they could have hoped for considering where it seemed to be heading last year.

It's above all but one auditions show last year already. So I'd say definitely good. Plus I think the reception is a lot more positive this year overall. If someone was to ask me this year I'd be more like to tell them it was surprisingly good whereas last year I'd have said "Meh. A bit crap really." So I think the viewers will probably grow a lot more this year than they did last year.
