Corrie - picture too dark and dingy?
Does anyone else think that Corrie is looking quite dark, dreary and dingy lately? Not referring to the plots or scripts, but the picture quality. I know it's not my telly, because everything else (including the ads!) look as bright, clear and colourful as it should.
It's either the lighting in the studio, or perhaps they add some weird colour filter in the editing. The Rovers in particular looks very drab and dark - like they haven't turned the lights on. Please tell me it's not just me...?

I know what you mean - compare it to any episode of Neighbours to see the difference

Yeah, I compared Corrie to Hollyoaks the other day, Hollyoaks was very bright but Corrie was quite dark, but then again Emmerdale has been for quite a while so it might just be ITV...

I see a lot of subtle differences to the production standards at Corrie. I am positive this is Stuart Blackburns stamp getting put on the show.
I've noticed the darker/ moodier lighting to the episodes - possibly one of his ways of bringing about the 'grittier realism of the earlier days' that he spoke about when he was first appointed? I also think the camera angles are edgier- swooping shots from above/ panning shots across the street. Characters having mega close ups. I think even the use of the sets appears fresher too, for example - Gloria standing talking to Dev tonight at he other end of the bar where the telephone is- she was very reminiscent for me of Annie Walker standing there. A lot of these positions were classic Corrie but haven't been used as much lately. The corner shop is featuring more prominently as well (a complaint I've seen on another thread). I also think they have simplified & made clearer the layout of the corner shop. For years I've always felt it looked the wrong way around but tonight it looked / had a feel of the old days of Alf's Mini Market. Overall, I am quite enjoying the new touches to the show. Only small things I know but they can all add up to the overall atmosphere to the programme. Still earlier days i know and I am still a bit nervous of what Stuart may do to my favourite show but fingers crossed he is going in the correct direction. |

I am too enjoying SB's spin on things.
The Platts saga is really good, not sure if it's his work though? |

Meh... to each their own. Personally, I think it looks awful - very dingy and dark, like the characters haven't turned their lights on properly or something.
![]() It really makes the Rovers look even worse since its redecoration, IMO. |

I think it's been like that for a very long time, especially in the Rovers, but I'm used to it now.

Generally when shows have a lot of sad and/or dark storylines you'll find that the look of the show gets a lot darker. It's to create an atmosphere.

Then I realized that my telly had broke. ![]() Went out the next day and bought a new one, now Corrie is as bright as always

Love the observations; am about a week behind on Corrie so will have to catch up and see if I notice!
