Just to create a subtopic to my 'Kate Oates, So Far...' Thread earlier, were I suggested a New Home Farm Family... I'm wondering if YOU could create a New Home Farm Family for Emmerdale what would it be like?

I'd go for a large family, 2 or so generations and possibly create a dynasty. For example -

Head
Around 65-70, successful businessman. Built everything up from scratch. In poor health. Reluctant to hand over to Son 2. Feels his Grandson would be better suited. Wants to hang on a few more years.

Head Wife
Around 65. Wants her husband to hand everything over to Son 2, so they can retire for a quiet life. Doesn't see the Son 2's bad side. Never got over the loss of her first Son. Scared of losing her husband now too.

Son 1
Nice guy. Died in mysterious circumstances. His brother (Son 2) killed him off screen, a few years ago.

Son 2
Around 45. Keen to take over his fathers empire. Constantly trying to assure him the time is right to retire, wants nothing more than to take over. Dodgey business deals, works outside of the law, has affairs with other women. An 'I want, I have type'. Was involved in his elder brother's death off screen many years ago, family don't know about it. Did it on purpose, so he can inherit everything.

Son 3
Late 30's to 40. Off screen character to come in at a later date. Hasn't been seen by the family in many years. Has his own family and made his own money. His brother (Son 2) resents this. Was very close to his dead brother.

Son 2's Wife
Early 40s. Trophy wife type. Thinks she needs a rich man to get by and has come from a poor background, so is scared of going back to nothing. Has confidence issues, depression, her Husband has been abusive and she has turn a blind eye to his affairs over the years to keep the family together. She was in love with her husbands dead brother and doesn't know of her Husbands involvement in the death.

Grand Daughter 1
Early 20s. Ruthless, Beautiful and Seductive. Just like her Father. Another I want, I have type. Chip off the old block. Use's people for her own gains. Has sexuality issues. Dismisses them and doesn't want to confront it.

Grand Son
Early 20s. He's 2nd in line to the family fortune. Closer to his Grandad than Father. Family comes first type. Doesn't trust his Father and can see what his Father has done to his Mother over the years. Feel's when the time is right he can oust his Father, take control of everything and look after the family. Suspicious of his Fathers involvement in his Uncles Death. He took the blame for his Younger Sister when she got involved in a car crash. Went to jail and brought shame on the family.

Grand Daughter 2
Late Teens. Has no interest in her family or money. Suffers from guilt a over a car crash she caused that killed her boyfriend and her Brother took the blame. Feels like she needs to escape the family.

I think this sort of family set up would work well and have potential for a lot of storylines. Would be more interesting than the Macey's anyway...

KO said that powerful families in Homefarm were a thing of the past. So I think we're stuck with the Maceys .

I like your idea. The one thing I wouldn't do, is a murder secret in the family. There have been too many deaths and murders in homefarm. The show needs a family that can stay for a long time. Not another family with a murderous big secret that will inevitably lead tot he exit of some members of the family.

I know what Kate Oates said about no more big families at Home Farm but I do think she's got this wrong. I think a large, complex family at Home Farm would work well...

Large families + Inheritance = Power Struggles and lots of storylines.

I don't think I can take Declan and another Home Fields 2014 festival. Yawn...

I feel your pain.

I would add to your family a cook house keeper who knows a lot of the family's dirty laundry.

The dead brother, should have a secret child whose mother kept secret to protect him/her from the family.

Ha thank you... The thought of Home Fields 2014 is very depressing... Yeah I agree with this. Plus it would be interesting to have Son 2 and the Grand Son battling over the family inheritance, only to have the dead brothers secret child come in and be rightful heir to everything. They'd then have to reluctantly work together against the outsider.

WOW! I just said this on another thread...that powerful families at Home Farm have been done to death...I don't mind the Maceys (except Robbie). I'm assuming that Steve will try to scam Declan out of everything...but think that Declan will come out on top in the end.

I think even if Declan see's off Steve, the character is on borrowed time at Home Farm... If Kate Oates doesn't remove him from Home Farm, then I'm sure the next Producer will.

Home Farm and Maurel are the two main weakest areas of Emmerdale, they have been for sometime.

I quite like a bit of Dynasty style nonsense from time to time, but I do find the types of family that they seem to choose for Home Farm completely unbelievable. The Wyldes were fun to watch for a short while but they were basically caricatures. The Maceys could have been interesting, but it just wasn't well executed, and they were made to appear dull and dry instead.

Ild take that suggestion - and any others as long as it removes declan, his horse faced sister and her dwarf sprog away from home farm! Terrible characters and i hope that bimbo katie is gone for god aswell
