Marks in the headphone jack

Is it normal for the inside of a headphone jack to have slight marks in? I notice when looking closely at my iPod Touch 5G that the two silver metal parts (don't know what they are called) have minor marks on, almost scratch like. most likely caused when a pair of headphones are inserted into the jack.

Just wondered if this was normal?

Perfectly normal. The contacts are quite springy and as the plug is inserted they are pushed aside and the springiness keeps them pressed up against the plug.

So you will always see a scratch mark. Especially if the contact corrodes a bit as the plug cuts trough the corrosion to the bare metal That makes the scratches rather more obvious.

Thank you for the explanation
