When to switch puppy to 2 feeds a day?

Hi all,

I've got a gorgeous little cockapoo puppy who is 6 and a half months old. He's my first puppy so I'm not very clued up on these things, but when is the best time to drop him down to 2 feeds a day from 3?

Thanks in advance

Gosh mine were both on two feeds a day from 4 months or so, 6 months is plenty, you may also want to start weaning him off puppy food soon, many think puppy foodis up a year, but not all are, and definatley not in the same quantities as under 6 months - that's when most of the growing is done, for example my lurcher was on 3 trays of nature diet and biscuits a day until 6 months, he's now on 2 trays of puppy and when he has his chop it'll be changed to same quantity of adult.

Check the feeding guidelines for the food you are feeding, it'll will tell you when to change and what to change to. Cocka's are prone to being fatties so I'd be extra careful.

Thanks. He's on James Wellbeloved Junior so one stage up from the puppy one. I've also asked the vet who's advised to start cutting down his lunch portion and wean him off it slowly before cutting it out completely. So I've just given him a smaller version of what he'd normally get for lunch and will continue cutting down on the size until he's off it completely.

Thanks for your help

Sounds good, it's a good food too.

Mine never go down to 2 a day they have breakfast, lunch and supper. Seems to work best for them IMO.

Mollie has done well for 12 years like that and I think Betty being so small will need 3 a day to keep the energy up.

I think it differs. When Lola was a puppy she used to eat quite a bit, but for the past year or so, she only has one sachet of dog food and day, but she nibbles on biscuits throughout the day. She prefers to eat little and often, she's not a big eater. But saying that, she does love to eat the leftovers from the cats...
