Yes, they would - because they did.

All of Terry's first page threads had 'merged' in the title and redirected us into this thread, so it was the mods. I thought at first that it was an old thread, considering ten minutes before the merges happened the mods had responded to a thread, telling FMs that they were being unreasonable. Not sure if the poster who made the thread about Terry even got a ban - T&Cs? What T&Cs?

Now, they've decided to act on it and single out a poster for simply creating, er, on topic discussions! I thought this was a forum but every day it's looking more and more like a pack of wolves scarying away the sheep one by one - and the mods have just been welcomed into the pack.

Must be the same mods who moderate the soap forum...

If the poster in question behaved as they do on the BB forum area, this would not have been needed.

It was immoderate behaviour which drove away articulate posters who were self-disciplined enough to vow never to succumb to temptation, however provoked, to post on that FM's threads.

Oh, how I sympathise. It must be very difficult to scroll past a thread title. I don't know how people have survived series after series having to put up with that!

The fact is, frequent users of the SCD forum who shout the loudest have gotten their way on something where a forum member was doing nothing wrong. The mods expressed their view on this last week AND this week. They stated both times that no rules had been broken and that FMs should ignore threads they dislike.

Now, suddenly, they've changed their minds? Why? They've already stated that it doesn't go against the rules, so it's simply to please others, which is concerning - they've actively chosen a 'side' now, and all people learn from it is that by expressing a view over and over, they get their own way and are, essentially, able to control the board.

Totally agree. I have no issue with the mods merging the threads; but the title is vindictive and immoderate and is in contravention of 4.2 (5) and 4.2 (8) of the T&C and I have alerted the mods to that. This would have sufficed:

I would say that the quality of this forum was impaired and its appeal diminished for countless reasonable posters. Should it not be a place where everybody feels that they want to post, not that they wish to avoid certain threads for one reason?

Funny you should mention that because this latest decision certainly doesn't make me want to post here any more.

It was bully tactics from FMs and all the mods have done is encourage it now with this thread.

I have to put up with the EXTREMELY tedious EastEnders threads, alongside Coronation Street, Neighbours, Hollyoaks, Doctors, Fair City, Brookside, Family Affairs, Home & Away, and whatever other soap may crop up on the soap forum just to discuss and read about Emmerdale which is lucky to have one thread on the first page at any one time.

Are we going to see that forum layout change so FMs don't have to go through the extremely hard task of scrolling past any unrelated threads? According to your Wiki page, they should... and since they've solved a "problem" for the SCD forum, it's only fair they treat every other section the same way.
One minute, I'll visit the soap forum and ask them... If we make a fuss, we should get somewhere despite the mods telling us it isn't going to happen several times now.
However, I have a new tactic this time, I shall state I will flounce until the problem is sorted, but before I flounce I'll point out and try to humiliate the FMs that are "forcing" me to flounce. It's a sure way to get the mods on side and for change to happen, apparently...

Great move by the moderators which can only improve the enjoyment of the Strictly Forum for most regulars!!!

Just copying this over from the now-closed thread about Terry that seems to have led to this action. I completely agree with Rhumbatugger and everyone who has spoken up for the essential harmlessness of this poster. To be frank, I think he's a troll, but I don't care. He's a nice troll. We have plenty of in-character posters who annoy me more. He talks shit... He's funny. He's like our own 'man with the hat' or Brucey in a way. You might be aggravated by his threads but he's a part of the Strictly forum.

I'm uncomfortable that people feel it's all right to go after an individual, even if he is a straw man. I'm uncomfortable that the mods have responded to a group and acted against this one guy. That's a bad precedent. Which of us will annoy the group next?

I have no problem with Terry in fact some of his threads are quite funny, but having them all in the one place is a good idea, I hadn't been in the forum since early Saturday night came in tonight and nearly the full first page was Terrys threads

Glad to see the user of that thread got banned for it - at least the mods did something right.

That's my fear, too, get on the wrong side of the pack of wolves and they'll be directing their venom at you next... and the mods have sent out the message that the more you pick on them, the more likely they'll give in and take action against the 'victim'.

I wouldn't ban any one to be honest. I'm all for thrashing it out in public and coming to an understanding or to some kind of tolerance. It would be bloody but maybe it would be good for us as a forum.

This feels a bit spiteful, i mean is he no longer allowed to create threads at all anymore without them being merged here? It feels like a pack of bullies are isolating that member to this thread because they find him a nuisance. Okay he is very over the top but he was creating discussions and in a kind of eccentric way could be amusing.

Think how you would feel having other members on here openly judging/criticizing you on the forum and constantly complaining that the mods need to step in. Now the mods have stepped in and gave ground to this childish witch hunt. I would not be surprised if Terry felt unwelcome on here now which is unfair.

I suspect without him to moan about all the time you all might find this section of the forum a bit more dull.

This does seem a bit mean and could have all been avoided if the 'Ignore' facility ignored whole threads instead of just posts.

They were tbh. Apart from being banal imo he was spamming and bumping like a good 'un and it was clear from some posts he did not need to do it. He was perfectly capable of talking sense. He just chose not to a lot of the time so for that reason 'retiring the character' was the right thing to do.

Actually, I would disagree that the FM was creating discussion - they were creating threads - and if they weren't responed to, they were bumping them which iis contravening the forum rules.


To be honest, I would argue it was that which needed addressing. It's alright saying that if a thread is popular it will stay on the first page - but there's not a lot can be done at silly o'clock in the morning when forum traffic is slow and someone is on a bumping spree.

I can only assume there has been discussion between the mods and FM behind the scenes as it were.

The FM in question has not been banned; nor should he be. He is extant and able to post freely.

He is the only FM I have on my 'ignore' list, which says it all really. I applaud the mods for taking a common sense stance, in the same way I applaud them for banning the more vitriolic FMs.
