sorry i know this may have been done 100 times but i need advice...

which is suited to me guys

i am not a huge gamer by any means and haven't owned a console since ps2.

I have decided to pre order one to treat myself after good exam results. I know the ''get what ever console you mates have'' is the one that most recommends but my friends are not really games lol.

the games i want to play are call of duty, nba 2k14, and fifa 14. I also want the console for watching movies and multi media purposes as i currently don't have a blu ray player....
which one do you recommend?

depends on your budget.

if you want gaming as cheap as chips, why not buy a 360. They are 110 new and cheaper 2nd hand. The games will soon be rock bottom prices too. Fifa and COD are still available and will have lots of people playing online too.

You can also use it to play DVDs and movies that you err install on a memory stick.

If you are desperate to have blu-ray, then save up and buy a next-gen console in november. The machines and games will be top end prices though.

As you are not a huge gamer, go for the 360. You will have a list of classics to play for peanuts.

crackdown
red dead redemption
skyrim
batman's
Mass effect
Fallout
Borderlands
Gear of war
Streetfighter
PGR4 / Forza
Rockband
Bayonetta
(all the indy and xbox arcade games too)

and can still play fifa 14 and GTA 5 and COD ghosts etc

If you have a grand then get both... If I had that much disposable cash to hand, I would.

In the long run I'll probably end up with both but initially I'll go for PS4. After my custom built Steam Box...

Why blow so much money when you are not a huge gamer?

Its difficult to recommend one next gen machine over another - and it really does come down to what your friends have, for swapping games and playing online.

Otherwise it looks like the PS4 edges it on performance, definitely on cost and 100% on goodwill alone. The PS plus seems to be very positively welcomed.

The xbox 1 had a terrible unveiling and it lost them a LOT of fans, myself included. It has a lot of features that are completely useless in the UK, but chances are it will still do very well and there will not be that much between them.

If i was going to blow 1000 on tech, this is what id get:

#1 Xbox 360 for 100 - it still has a huge catalog of amazing games for peanuts
#2 Order a PS4 for 320 and get Fifa 14 and CODg
#3 Get a PS vita 150 that will link to your PS4
#4 Spend 30 on a PS plus subscription for an instant game collection

That leaves you 400

A) be happy with the above and spend it on games over the next few years
B) upgrade/ buy a pretty decent PC and get steam
C) get an Xbox 1
D) get an ipad and enjoy some of the IOS games

Thats huge amount of gaming to enjoy for a non-gamer!

if you need a car out of that grand, i would reassess spending half the budget on a PS4

I'm not going to recommend what you do with your money, that's up to you but if you want a next-gen console and the main games you play are COD, FIFA and other sports games then I would go with the Xbox One.

You get a free copy of FIFA 14 in the box and both EA sports games and COD will feature exclusive content. I would also say the X1 controller with it's impulse triggers will likely be better suited for FPS. I don't think you'll be disappointed with either though.

Only with the Day One release box... Wasn't that in the news Monday/Tuesday?

ETA: Yep, FIFA 14 is only going to be included with Day One Pre-Ordered consoles: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...re-orders-only

As I said in post #6 - personally I'll be getting the PS4 first. I have the 360 and PS3 and am not a fanboy of either but I've just been more impressed with the PS4.

They have extended their day one preoder line up with most retailers, so it will still apply if he wants to order one soon before they sell out again.

It also appears new bundles are starting to appear, on Amazon there is Forza 5 pack instead of FIFA 14. I'm guessing that's going to be announced soon.

For those 3 games you may as well pick up a current generation console.

360 is cheaper but PS3 has Blu Ray

Next Gen PS4 is cheaper and more powerful

However it is worth trying some decent games rather than those 3

I think he was just giving you more information for you to make up your own mind.

The PS4 will leave you with more money for your car parts/tax/insurance... not MUCH more, but still...

MartinImber's recommendation of actually trying out some more games on the systems isn't a bad idea. Demo pods should be out for both systems by early November so I think it's be worth it for you to hunt them down.

If you're over 18 get a PS4, under 18 an Xbox.

If you're not a huge gamer I'd go PS4 as you get loads of freebies with PS+ so if you only ever buy a couple of big titles you'll still have loads of other games to have a go at without shelling out much

About 395-400 for PS4 + FIFA, yeah.

Xbox One with free digital FIFA is 425. This was sold out until they made more available today and will likely sell out again very quickly - so if you're thinking of buying it later, or in the shops you won't get FIFA free as all the Day One editions with free FIFA will be gone!

If you like Ultimate Team, Xbox One will feature 'legend' players from years gone by.

And to correct 2D, Xbox One will not have exclusive COD content - just earlier DLC like the 360 does.

Don't forget if you want to play online you'll also need Xbox LIVE or PlayStation+ which will add further cost.

What does age have to do with anything? If you're suggesting that Xbox Live is the only place that has immature 12 year olds playing COD then i can assure you that there's just as many playing on PSN from my past experience...

We had a similar person a few months ago, wanted Fifa COD and something else similar, was not open at all to any decent games, in those cases buy whatever is cheapest, do not need next generation.

You do realise to 90% of the people on the forum people who only want 2 or 3 games and do not want to try anything else are very frustrating, they go on about games, wanting new consoles ect ect and they do not even want to try any of the decent games.

Shooters, well there are lots better than COD, both main manufacturers have their own better series.

Just looking at PS3 I will let a 360 owner mention their good games (Halo GeOW are liked), but The Last of Us is probably the best game of the generation, how can someone be insistant on playing basically the mass produced gassy lagers of games and not the fine wines, or even the decent ales.

You cannot be a gamer and not want to try different games, it is just wrong and to be honest annoying to gamers.

As it is there are 3 launch games we want and is the main reason we preordered rather than waited out.
