Thanks for the links everyone

I love Valerie & Tristan. He is such a sweetheart.

I loved Corbin & Karina's jive. He can dance.

Amber & Derek are a good pairing. I expect he will get a lot out of her.

Loving the show, still has some flaws though. Like the voting system is pretty poor where you vote on next weeks elimination but I suppose America cannot vote live due to different time zones etc.

Elizabeth - A mild warm Samba for me. Good technique but she leaves me cold. Past contestants I have not known well can usually bring something to make you want them to stay but sadly she is not doing this.
Christina - Lady Gaga paso was no doubt going to happen this season to that song. She was much more entertaining than last week and can prove to be a good contender.
Bill E - Overmarked IMO. Terrible Jive. He hardly did any kicks. His heart is in the right place though. Maybe with a ballroom dance he will be much better.
Jack - He's very likable and I thought for a guy tackled the rumba well. I can see him being the most improved contestant this season which is good for him as everyone else is getting like 9's in first weeks showing no improvement for viewers.
Keyshawn - Overmarked, Again a poor dance with no spark like Bill Nye has. In the guys defence he has been given Cha Cha and Samba for his 2 dances. Pretty harsh from producers but that's the way it goes. As for the pro sorry to say I doubt she will be back
Nicole - I am starting to warm towards her attitude however as another poster commented I am starting to notice how annoying Sasha is. He seems desperate to steal the spotlight. The Rumba was not bad but lots of tricks from the fog machine and dimming of lights to hide poor technique and did not flow well.
Leah - Fantastic improvement. Really connected to her this week and had the best Samba.
Bill Nye - FIERCE <333 So fabulous
Corbin - He leaves me cold like Elizabeth TBH. However, his jive was clearly fantastic.
Valerie - Had me in tears again. She is such an inspiration. However, sympathy aside sad to say she is not the best dancer in the competition and the Judges need to start scoring her fairly.
Brant - Disliked his Rumba. Seemed to be more of a show off type. I want to see him do a nice ballroom Waltz. I think he is in danger next week if he gets a low score.
Amber - Not bad but kind of a let down after her Cha Cha.

Overall, I am usually against panto acts but this year I am all for Bill Nye surviving. He is fun to watch. Hope he stays for next week. Also supporting Jack Osborne.

It's funny, I've never much taken to Jack and I haven't been keen on Cheryl for quite a few seasons but I'm really liking this partnership. They seem to have a pretty good, low key, friendly professional relationship. Straight forward and no BS.

Jack has no dance background and he's not been blessed with a dancer's physique or a matinee idol's looks plus he has some other challenges to live with, so all in all I was expecting that rumba to be a car crash or at least a massive cringe and it was neither. I was impressed.

Sorry - not getting the Bill Nye love I thought his paso was dire (though he 'acted' well). I also find him slightly creepy in the training room . Len's apology for under marking him last week was pandering to the masses. Pooh! You sell out, Goodman .

Leah's samba was great (especially for a non-dancer).

Amber's Lindy () was fab. I know she doesn't want to hear it, but for a big girl she has incredible movement through her body (plus great energy and rhythm). Judges were right about the flat feet. Wish she could have managed heels.....

Corbin's jive was fab and I could watch Karina jive till the cows come home, but I can't relate to him at all.

Valerie and Tristan are just lovely together . She's not a completely bad dancer either and, so far, I don't think the show has pushed the emotional blackmail further than I can stand . I don't know about their marking, but thought the judges critiqued her fairly.

Snooki? Sasha? Hmm. Undecided. Might grow on me.

Keyshawn wasn't as lumberingly horrible as many other football players have been

Brant and Peta. Look great but I'm not feeling it yet. Maybe he's too pretty boy for me to take seriously....

(haven't watched the other three yet).

Bill E - I've seen much worse from other middle aged, slightly portly blokes. I thought he did quite well, considering, but it always irritates when they gripe about their scores the previous week. 3 sixes is good in the first week, for goodness sake!

Christina - not sure if I like her much, but it was a good paso. Been missing Mark's dressing-up-box-theatricality-chic . Really haven't been missing his dire training room hats-shorts-garb (-age )

Elizabeth's staring eyes are a bit scary (maybe it's the eye colour thing ) but I loved this samba and the music was fab. I don't feel anything much one way or another for this pairing, but the dancing's great

I agree pretty much with everything .

-Now you see why I cant stand Sasha most of the times lol and its a shame because I want Snooki to do well but I feel like his attitude is going to put some people off .

-Brant has potential and is really likeable but I wished Peta would calm down a bit with the " showmance " .

-Last week I feel like Christina and Elisabeth were kind of in the same boat; Good dancers but leave some people cold for some reasons but Christina edged her out this week because her personality really came through and she had one of the best and most entertaining dances of the night. Plus Christina and Mark actually have some good chemistry;I cannot say the same for Val and Elisabeth.

-Yes Leah had the best samba of the night; I was really impressed. " The samba is party dance " in my Karen Hardy's voice lol , its supposed to be fun and we need to see your personality shine and I got this with her dance. This is why I think that Elisabeth was overmarked by 1 point because she danced really well but she didn't capture the essence of the dance which is essential for a samba.

Bill Nye Paso : GOLD
I hope he stays for a while.

Oh and I almost forgot , Corbin needs to calm down a bit; I know that he is very enthusiastic and is happy to be there but he is coming across as being a little too over-confident; Yes I screamed " WILDCATS " like the rest of the audience when he said what team ? I watched HSM but it turned some people off so he need to watch out.

Favorite dances of the night : Christina and Mark paso, Bill and Tyne Paso, Snooki & Sasha rumba, Brant & Peta's rumba and Corbin & Karina's jive.

I'm erring on your side Soupy. I am in the minority with you, not feeling the Bill N love. His posture is atrocious, he's going to be too predictable, for me, if we have to incorporate madness into a routine every week, to emphasise he is a man of science, He is a bit too full of himself, being upset that Len marked him low last week, does he actually think he is a better dancer than he is? I think Len was fair on the marking tbh and backtracking on his scoring boo.:

Thought the smoke machine came back into overdrive again this week obscuring the foot work.

Enjoyed Amber and Derek's jive, yes she was flat footed and a bit stompy in parts and missed a couple of steps but those shoes didn't help the situation, just empasised the problem.

Peta did a good job with Brant and thought they did a very passable rhumba, he's not the best dancer but compared to how stiff he was in the first week, think Peta has done quite well with him.

Still not warming to Snooki, she wasn't showing emotion in her dance but then she doesn't the rest of the time, the only thing that moves are her eyes. She comes across as a bit hard faced. I think Sasha is being blamed unfairly it's just not the ideal pairing.

I enjoyed Bill E and Emma thought he had the performance element, if not the technical ability, a bit dad dancing in parts but I was entertained by them.

Keyshaw, not surprised by the outcome, but feel sorry for Sharna, who didn't deserve to go out. Part of me felt Keyshawn's heart wasn't fully in the training, whether that's down to work commitment or time constraints don't know but he was a bit of a let down. He seemed to have a sweet personality at the end which I hadn't really seen from the training footage.

Christina and Mark were good in the Paso but felt Christina is still not showing enough performance.

Elizabeth and Val, good dance but still feel there is something missing with Elizabeth.

Jack is trying very hard and not bad for a non-dancer he is really taking to it and Cheryl has upped her game this season and I am warming to this pairing.

Leah has started to get into her dancing and a marked improvement this week. Tony's choreography never wows me usually, but thought he did a good job with this dance.

Corbin really came into his own in this jive, but his previous dance training really shows the difference between him and the novices, it's like night and day. He is coming across overly confident but maybe that was over enthusiasm.

Valeria is a sweetheart with the lovely Tristan. She struggled with the Paso, think she went wrong at the beginning, it threw her and she took a while to get back on track. She is struggling with her turns but gives it her all. Hope they last a few more weeks at least for Tristan's sake. A genuine guy.

Glad Julianne is judging, hope she blows the dust off her dance shoes and has a dance too. Although from what Derek said, she's not danced in a good while so doubt that's on the cards. For me Julianne will always be my favourite on the show and the best dancer, apart from when she had Chuck Wicks as a partner, a blip in her career.

Bill Nye certainly has fans. Three cute college girls in line with us said they drove all the way down from Santa Barbara--200 mile round trip--JUST to see Bill Nye. Haven't watched the tape yet but they were seated in the row immediately in back of the red couches, a blonde in white, a brunette in bright blue and another brunette in black.

Another lady in line with us chimed in that she can't stand Bill Nye because she was in a restaurant seated close to him a while back and he was rude and obnoxious to the wait staff and anyone who approached him.

When everybody was seated on benches outside waiting to go in, the guy who came out to give audience instructions started off by saying, "Hello, I'm Derek Hough!" People started cheering wildly, then one guy shouted, "Bill Nye!!!" [I didn't notice much applause] btw they no longer encourage the audience to freely boo the judges.

Corbin Bleu was the only celebrity to come out and greet everyone waiting on the benches. Accompanied by one of the top stage managers for security, Corbin walked the full length of that area twice, shaking hands with one person after another. He came over to me, said a few words, and when I wished him good luck he said, "Don't say good luck, that's bad luck. Say Man! aka Good Man." He then gave me a kiss, one of 2 or 3 kisses he gave. On the way back he waved to me again. He's very charming. His personality is going to get him a lot of votes, and of course his dancing is off the chain.

Thanks Dancefan for the insider scoop. Sure you get a truer picture than us viewers watching via tv or YouTube, we are given a snapshot. So interesting to hear your views and feelings being there.

Nice to hear Corbin gave you a kiss or two, sounds a sweet guy.

Yes from what edy, had said previously, Bill N garners followers, he must be showing something I am not seeing. Not surprised by the lady's experience of him in a restaurant, that's when you find out what these so called celebs are like, how they treat others, particularly someone waiting on them. Still suppose he could have been having an off day.

I don't miss the audience booing the judges, it got tedious, so glad they are not encouraged to do so.

What were the dances like to watch live, interested to hear your thoughts on them, was your view obscured by the smoke machine too?

Yes Soupy. I was going to say about the botox paralysing expressions, so could be part of the reason Snooki's face is immovable.

We had the best seats in the house. Third level, just above judges' table and had a perfect view of watching every single thing that happened. Great view of how the celebrities were behaving on the red couches. Only twice did I see any of them checking their mobile phones, Derek briefly early on, then soon after Elizabeth and Val and Christina and Mark were all checking their phones at once for a somewhat longer time.

We'd see when they would drag out the big tubes to spew out the smoke, but the smoke never obscured our view. The lighting was better in the ballroom than it sometimes showed on TV. Some of the shots on TV look overexposed, kind of burned out by so much light, but perfect in the ballroom.

It was great to watch the dances live.So many things were going on at once. While some dancers were on the floor--Leah, for instance, bathed in magenta light holding her opening pose--a male producer was interviewing Valerie in one of the wings, they'd bring in extra chairs to accommodate the 'scientists' who were going to be in Bill Nye's segment, and they be bringing in the smoke tubes for someone else's dance. Crew members stayed busy throughout, racing around like little bees.

When Elizabeth, Keyshawn and Bill E were all at the top of the stairs waiting to hear thier fate, we counted 8 cameras lined up pointing at them!

The stage manager, Rob Sellers, accompanied a white-haired camera operator--one of 11 or 12 camera oeprators--as he raced around ON the dance floor, sometimes in a big circle, filming the dancers. The camera operator held a contraption on a stick, with the camera on bottom and a viewer on top. Rob would physically hold onto the camera guy's back, and it seemed like Rob was referring to notes about which shots to get when. Then the white-haired camera guy would go off the floor and the other cameras would continue shooting.

The only dancers I saw rehearsing their dance were Amber and Derek, who went through their routine with their hands while they were seated in the red couches. Then, after Brooke interviewed Brant and Peta and Amber and Derek in that special space with a round front--on the 3rd level, not the 2nd--Amber and Derek stayed there and went through their routine again. Amber and Derek also left the floor two other times during commercials. Corbin and Karina, Christina and Mark, Elizabeth and Val, Leah and Tony, Nicole and Sasha, Brant and Peta, Bill E and Emma, even Valerie and Tristan were all missing for long periods of time, possibly rehearsing their dances.

At one point Valerie extended her arm in back of her trying to get Derek's attention, probably to congratulate him, but he didn't see her. Cheryl, Tony, Val and Peta all congratulated him as they were all on the dance floor ready for the show to go live.

Len and Bruno left twice to go to the men's room. The first time they came back, Brooke was seated on the red couch ready to interview couples. Bruno went over to her and gallantly lifted her hand to his lips, as he kissed her hand.

The second time Len and Bruno came back from the men's room, Brooke was in the middle of the floor. Len went over to her and gave her a hug and a kiss. Carrie Ann never left her seat!

Keyshawn and Amber seemed very close. Before the show started, Keyshawn gave Amber a big hug in the shadows of one of the wings, and later when they sat by each other on the red couches, they were very affectionate.

Elizabeth sat close to Derek and was very animated telling him something. Derek was very interested in the black fabric strips on Jack's shirt and reached over to feel it.

It seemed like the volume was turned up 200% for Leah and Tony's song, which increased the reaction in the ballroom. All the pros also loved Bill and Emma's routine.

When the stage crew rolled in three light banks--for Keyshawn's dance if I'm not mistaken--it's interesting to note those reflectors were just inexpensive stainless steel bowls purchased from IKEA for about $17 each. Someone in the cast or crew discussed that in a prior season.

Whenever they had a light pattern shine on the ballroom floor, it was so much more impressive in the ballroom than on TV because it went all over the walls, giving a fantastic effect.

The way they are doing this show is so much better than before. And it wasn't as hard to hear as previously, although it is still VERY hard to make out what the judges are saying.

They told us that 4 or 5 people had to be escorted out of the ballroom the first week because those people got out of their seats and went over to the celebrities, trying to get autographs. They said don't even try it.

P.S. Looks like the bloom may be a bit off the Bill Nye rose?

Current views on Vocal Vault:

Corbin - 20,379
Amber - 14, 048
Nicole - 12,438
Elizabeth - 7,380
Brant - 6,005
Bill Nye - 4,950
Christina - 4,769
Leah - 2,917
Jack - 2,354
Bill E - 2,290
Valerie - 1,816

Thanks Dancefan - you have a great memory!

(I think the camera the guy runs round the dance floor with sounds like a steadicam, like the ones they have running up and down the touchline at sporting events. They have lots of weights and counter balances to stop them shaking when they move and are (apparently) very heavy)

Thanks everyone for the links and the inside information.

I am absolutely loving Jack and Cheryl, and I thought their rumba was great.

Also loving Valerie and Tristan. Amber is not as confident as I was expecting her to be.

For some reason I think the dwts pros seem to get more technique in the latin out of their celebs than we do on Strictly over here.

I didn't like Corbin's dance. He can move but the song and the feel of the dance made me want to be sick - as does he.

I really like Leah; I hope she's in it for a while yet.

Amber's jive was over marked. Like it or not, there are things that people her size just can't do. Good effort though.

Jack is definitely the most likeable of the Osbourne clan. He's not a bad dancer.

I think the judges are over scoring too much this season - perhaps they don't have the courage to score fairly when the person is standing a few feet from them.

I agree that Bill Nye is creepy in the training room. I'm not getting the love at all.

Poor Bill Nye is injured . He may need a surgery because he injured his knee and he has the jive next week . I have a feeling that he may bow down out of the competition .

Aw, that's a shame. I'm not fond of him, but wouldn't wish injury on anyone. It will be a pity if it causes him to withdraw

There's an EW video with the couples reacting to the news of Julianne being a guest judge

Couple of digs at the existing judges

Is Corbin a bit dim? Can't help feeling Karina was thinking 'aaargh, keep your mouth shut and look pretty'

Thanks soupy, Mark and Derek reckon Julianne will tell it like it is. Corbin's thinking it's nepotism lol I suppose I can understand his point of view, but then he's got dance experience, so everyone's got some advantages Don't think he was being dim just honest. Whereas Karina knows Julianne and sees it as being a good thing, although she did say in the competitive world, it wouldn't be allowed, any friend or family member judging. Val kept his head down and didn't say anything.

Julianne did say during the show, she understands the dancers point of view and will throw away the' 4' paddle, so hope she is not going to dole out high scores, willy nilly

Seeing that pic of Amber, I think she drew the short straw with the costumiers this week, not the best ensemble to put her in. Although in fairness she did look better in the show wearing it apart from the shoes.

Snooki's having a smile lol..

Peta and Brant the showmance continues.

Brant looks like he is smiling through gritted teeth in that last pic.
