DWTS pros seem to get more out of their celebs or the celebs are more willing to push themselves.
Yep, the celebs are less coy about putting on a performance and wanting to do well (but they annoy me when they whinge about low scores and see it as a personal insult. I think there's a cultural difference going on there ).

My impression is the pros get more out of them in latin and Strictly does better in ballroom. I think maybe Dancing is a bit lax on the 'technicals' in ballroom.

I agree with that. We've had some fab ballroom dances on SCD over the years.
DWTS have a lot of faffing & wafting going on especially in the VWs.

The celebs push themselves more because DWTS only has 10 weeks where on SCD the celebs get 13 weeks so can progress more slowly.

I think they have longer to rehearse before it all kicks off though (?? maybe )

How long do they have to rehearse on Strictly before it kicks off?

Seems to me they've shortened the time on DWTS this season. They announced the cast on September 4 and the premiere was September 16. I think they had a couple of meetings with their partner before the announcement, but that's less than the 3 weeks they had previously to prepare for the premiere.

Tristan not only looks like my husband (who is Irish as well) but has the same sweet and charming personality so I love seeing Tristan on the show. Hope he gets a contender soon but I wasn't a bit surprised at how gallant he is with Valerie. That's the real Tristan you're seeing. I agree with Caramel or Karma, whichever one said more celebs will probably be requesting him in the future.

Tom
is fantastic, and more hilarious than we see him on DWTS. Someone--maybe Brooke?--was giving a Behind the Scenes 'tour' in a TV segment and commented how X-rated Tom's and others' language was during dress rehearsals. That was during the All Stars season where Kelly Monaco said something X-rated during dress rehearsal and someone put it up on YT before it was taken down.

I imagine the lively banter makes dress rehearsal a lot more fun.

And of course, if anyone has seen America's Funniest Videos, which Tom hosts, knows his quick wit and his non-prudish take on things.

If anyone hasn't seen Tom's Quickstep with Ashly DelGrosso, which was gone from YT for a long time, it's been reuploaded here. He did a Charlie Chaplin impression.

Hi Bella - welcome to the thread

I watch and enjoy both and enjoy the differences! I think you're bound to prefer the show you know well and already love. Give DwtS a chance!

Why do they have 3 judges & not four?
You might as well ask why do we have four and not three!

Bruno seems to take on a different role as the kinda bad guy in the US version, or that might've just been my impression. Also Len doesn't seem so critical!?
Oh, I see Len in the grumpy/bad role on DwtS and Bruno as much the same on both.
Len is definitely the "tough judge" on DWTS. He's almost always the lowest score, by a point or two, although this season he seems to have changed it up a bit and is more like the version you've seen on SCD.

Bruno is soft as butter usually on DWTS. Why he and Len switch roles usually between the two shows I have no idea, but they do. Of course they don't have someone like SCD's Craig, who scores amateurs as if they're pros.

Who is the female judge?
Carrie Ann Inaba (best google her. She is also Artem's former squeeze )
She was a great dancer in her time, but really in a way always was inappropriate for a show about ballroom dancing. To this day nobody really understands why a Fly Girl was cast as a judge. Or if you prefer... "Fook Yu".

From what I saw in this show the costumes looked very underpar compared to the work put into them for the UK show.
Hmm, think they're very variable on the US show, but SCD had some shockers last year imo
Its not even a matter of money with DWTS, its a matter of (occasional) bad taste.

They hardly mentioned the personalities of the couples
I think you just get to know them through the training footage which I prefer to the daft VTs we sometimes get. You need to look out for the after show interviews too (there's no equivalent to ITT)
DWTS definitely milks celeb personalities. Almost to an offensive extent really. The person who didn't think so must have just seen one episode where maybe it was a bit lighter, but usually its not. Its just that the show hosts don't really directly talk about it. But the canned footage more than makes up for it (as do media interviews).

there doesn't seem to be that comedic element that there is on Strictly
Well, be thankful for small mercies! Seriously, though, sometimes SCD tips over into cringey end-of-pier panto territory and DwtS has a more evening, adult feeling to it. On the other hand, I think some of the folk - celebs especially - take things waaaay too seriously on DwtS (themselves in particular! )
Again, I think it may have been a case of this person seeing some unrepresentative episode. Because a LOT of the routines are comedic. Really its based on the contestant. If the contestant IS a comedian, or is an old person, or someone "quirky", then the pro often choreographs comedic dances. Unless its someone partnered with Derek Hough. He does a bunch of comedic routines every season even when his partners doesn't fit that parameters as easily.

Unless that person is speaking of DWTS not having the equivalent to Bruce Forsyth's bad over the top jokes. That's true---it doesn't. Tom Bergeron is one of the funniest people on the planet, but he doesn't rely on groanworthy one-liners like Forsyth. But despite how funny Bergeron is, I suppose some might read him as "more serious" in comparison.

Remember, in any game of Dancing v. Strictly Top Trumps, DwtS has Tom Bergeron!
Nuff said.

Valerie is so inspirational.

Julianne's remark to Mark was not nice . See this is one of the reasons why I am against with former pros judging on the panel ( a lot of grudges, bias...... )

Shirtless Corbin,
Elisabeth (even though I didnt really feel any passion in the dance; she looks like she was concentrating a little too much on the dance ),
Snooki did very well with her jive (I think that she was slightly underscored as usual ) ;
Amber did very well with a tango and a shirtless Derek YAY lol.
Christina also danced beautifully, another one who was underscored tonight imo.
Leah also did okay
Everyone stepped their game up I think. Valerie forgot some of the steps towards the end; Bill did " okay " . I

Val gone. Really sad at the result TBH.

I would rather watch another week of Val than some of the dullards left.

Its getting seriously frustrating to me how much power the judges have on DWTS. The voting system makes it near impossible to save fan fave acts like Val into another week. Its whoever is bottom of the leaderboard nearly always goes home. At least on SCD the viewers get a very good say in who survives and the dance off regulates the bottom 2 with our different voting system (Very technical rant LOL )

Just give Derek his next mirror ball and Amber the win. Its quite clear they are in the final. The rest don't carry the popularity to what Amber has.

I am really starting to lose interest in this show; It is not what it used to be
Quite frankly I was really bored tonight and FFW many times.

I enjoyed : Brant, Snooki, Bill the most tonight especially Bill.Sure they are not the best dancers out there but I enjoy watching them more than the " ringers " this year.

And Bill's reaction when he was called safe has to be one of the sweetest and best reactions I have ever seen in this show; Love him and Emma and I am so glad that the public is falling in love with them too

Exactly, with this new system TPTB have a lot of opportunity to manipulate the results and can ensure who stays or who goes home by manipulating the scores .

Yes Amber really has the opportunity to win this. Her and Corbin are a show-in for the finale already.
