I like to have a DVD playing in the background on my PC and I want to rip a few to my PC so I don't have to keep changing disks, what is the easiest way of doing this?!

I have a windows 8 pc

Use DVD Shrink. You can save the DVD's as an ISO, which you can drag into VLC to play as if the disc is in the machine.

I wouldn't worry. Even a woman can perform a task such as this okay. Just find a guide on the internet for it and you'll be fine.

I just knew that someone would jump in with something like the above. I was trying to make a joke, as well as trying to be a bit reassuring to them. For goodness sake!

Edit: By the way, how many average computer users (who are teenagers) would know how to rip a DVD onto their hard drive?

Difficult to be specific about 'average'. The modal amount of users would be ones who wouldn't even be aware that there are forums where they can pose questions.

So even the simplest questions posed on here would indicate the user is 'above average' IMHO.

I'm a woman, I rip most of my DVDs when I buy them I use MakeMKV because it's extremely easy to use and very quick to rip, the only problem is that MKV files tend to be quite large. Freemake Video Converter is also very easy to use, but not as quick at MakeMKV (though it does have a pause button), with Freemake you can choose the output format so the output file can end up a lot smaller than with MakeMKV.

DVDshrink works for most disks. Another option that will save a lot of disk space it to rip the DVD to MP4 using

http://handbrake.fr/ The quality is fine and very simple to use for all

I second using Handbrake.
http://handbrake.fr/

Or alternatively you could try Free DVD Video Converter from DVDVIdeoSoft (This program converts only unprotected files).
