Carol would need alcohol to have to listen to the squeaky, unintelligible, phoney shite that Courtney from Beverly Hills talks.

Liz Taylor, of course, was famously modest and self-effacing.

Can Carol not remember what it's like to be 19? To be fair, it was over 30 years ago.

I thought it was funny - cutting but funny. And Courtney was not a good sport and did put her own vanity ahead of the team. I think that is more than justification for the nom and the comment.

People will argue over whether a penalty was deserved, Carol merely stepped up to the ball and ... WHACK! ... back of the net as they say. I laughed and would've jumped up and sang overly loud if it had been that other game.

That would have been a good response. If only Courtney had actually said it, which is very unlikely.

Presumably she remembers what it was like to be a 19 year old Carol. It is unlikely that she remembers what it is like to be a 19 year old courtney.

Exactly - no ability to empathise with the youth of today.

No, she wasn't. Courtney's had proper conversations.

Has Carole?

Spiteful malice doesn't become any more appealing when it's done coldly.

She's shown no sign of it.

I am genuinely unable to make any sense of this. 'The youth of today' are not a monolithic bloc with one personality. Why would Carol 'remember' what it is like to be Courtney? Does Courtney 'empathise' with Carol? If not, does that mean she had no ability to empathise with anyone older than herself?

If Courtney is indicative of the youth of today then heaven preserve us all.

I have criticised Carol several times over her endless bitching. But in this case there was some right on her side. Almost the whole house were expressing horror and outrage when Courtney refused to wear the boiler suit. Carol was only saying openly what they were all saying behind her back. The mirror quip was a bit gratuitous, but the stuff about her being selfish was fair enough I thought.

Carol's shown little if any ability to empathise with anyone of any age.

No one's said Carol would or should remember what it is like to be Courtney. Why are you replying to something no one's said?

No one was really endangered by Courtney refusing to wear the suit, so any HM who expressed horror and outrage was being spiteful and silly.

In any case, this thread is cheering the mirror "quip", which was much worse than "a bit gratuitous".

Let me explain: a woman in her 50s, if she remembers being young, might conceivably remember that people in their teens still have a lot to learn, a lot of insecurities, etc., and most older people would be kind of sympathetic towards youngsters because they vaguely remember being that age themselves.

Courtney took it all rather badly for someone who apparently can't wait to leave....

They thought at the very least she was denying them all food. She did as well. It was interesting though. She seemed to think that it would be a terrible catastrophe if pictures of her in a boiler suit and hair net got into the public domain. In which case I think she was badly advised before she came onto the show.

I'm sure Courtney is happy to be nominated but Carol didn't have to be so nasty about it. Of course Courtney won't take that well.

They'd already happily given up their food for the obnoxious twist and didn't seem to care so much about it then. And it was the HMs smugly sitting in luxury who were most vitriolic.

But I take it you see the mirror "quip" was obnoxious, since you keep focusing on the part where Carol had more of a case (though was still gratuitously nasty).
