Here are some alternative words. Personally I think vile is in a league of it's own.

evil, shameful, depraved, base, degraded, wicked, low, abominable
unpleasant, repulsive, horrid, nasty, horrible, terrible, repellent, foul
dreadful, despicable, abhorrent, revolting, awful, contemptible, abominable, hateful, disgusting, loathsome

Carol is ignoble and nefarious.

Everyone's vile tonight, apparently. Emma Willis was VILE to Sophie. Nina Myskow is vile. Bruce is vile. Charlotte is vile. And of course...Carol is vile.

In my dictionary, the definition of vile is "morally debased, depraved or despicable". Yeah, so I'm thinking of rapists, paedophiles, murderers, burglars, fraudsters, thieves and Sallie Axl.

I think using the word for a Scottish journalist who asked a close-to-the-knuckle question, or an ex-soap actor who gets a bit angry every now & then, or a young Sunderland girl who gets drunk and burps a lot is wayyyy too over dramatic.

OP I think you need to buy a new dictionary

People were listing use of 'vile' as a forum cliché in this Big Ol' Thread of forum clichés from pre-BB8.
A lot of the others seem to still be relevant too.

I don't know if you were doing it sarcastically but did you not do just this on your own 'vile' thread?

Hahaha

I agree, the word is over-used and it's use lacks imagination

Now this has more imagination except I've seen you state this in two threads so far this morning that I've read, I expect to see it used more in future

Is rebarbative the new vile?

Ironically, the use of the word 'vile' on this forum is not against T&Cs, but this thread is

What annoys me is posters who attempt to impose their own made-up, incorrect, personal definitions of words on others on a public forum.

The official definition has been provided - it is entirely appropriate when describing many a HM's actions, behaviour, and personality, where one can back up why they perceive them as extremely unpleasant, morally base, wicked etc

I rather wonder that anyone would imply someone using the word 'vile' in the correct context demonstrates a 'lack of imagination', 'cant think that much and has a tendency to follow the crowd' or require a thesaurus. Given that it is in fact that same group who are incorrectly defining the word - I mean, no where in the dictionary does it say it is intended for rapists and murderers. Let's have it right hmm

Time to get over it - people are using the word 'vile' in the correct context. I have a dictionary for loan should anyone like to reassure themselves

The word 'vile' does get thrown about on here VERY loosely. I would definitely say Conor from last year's series was vile though. The way he treated, and encouraged other housemates to treat Deana, was absolutely disgraceful.

I admit I haven't use vile or hate either - especially hate... it's a very strong word I discourage my daughter from saying. I prefer dislike too

I am too - whilst being deadly serious

I'm not a huge advocate of their use either - I think I used the word once about Speidi (who I did find intensely unpleasant)and got a load of aggro

Hate and the accusation of 'haters' is probably my bug bear. I don't know any of these people - I might say their behaviour, personality or such and such action is vile, but I don't 'hate' anyone I don't have personal experience of. Dislike is what I opt for too.

But ultimately, words is words, and who I find adorable may well be vile to someone else.

Haters - that word really and truly bugs me. The users of it make me think of a 12-year-old sitting there fuming that somebody doesn't like who they like in One Direction
