This would be a good Idea, would in not? If they built a BB house in Dublin, I'm sure they'd get their money back many times over.

or they could do what bb norway and sweden are doing and move BBUK and BB Ireland in to one house

But Ireland is about 1/10th the size of the UK in terms of population.

Well, given how long it's taking them to build a sodding tunnel, if they started building a BB house now the applicants would be of pensioners' age by the time it was completed.

Did I read there are BB6 auditions in Dublin this year? The Irish usually do very well in UKBB - look at Brian, Anna and Ray

how about BBIRA? they could put 12 members of the IRA in a house, and the winner gets several thousand pounds worth of plastic explosives!

You are absolutely hilarious! And should be proud of yourself that you're the first person to mention the IRA when talking about Ireland in this thread. Why is it that everytime someone talks about Ireland in any of these forums there is always someone who has to start talking about repulicianism or sectarianism? Get over it people....

Satisfy my curiosity, josephgall: are you Irish or are you British?

He sees himself as Irish, judging that on the fact that he had a go at me in another post a few weeks back!

That's about as funny as having bb palestine where the winner gets to blow themselves up in israel....

What exactly is your problem? You demonstrated how stupid you were in that other thread. May I also say something here, I do see myself as Irish and whats wrong with that? You know that you can be dual nationality - British and Irish!

Ok, back on the subject. I sincerely doubt it would happen, interesting though it might be, simply because of logistics. While a lot of us here in Ireland have access to UK TV channels via various means, the reverse isn't true. God knows that if I were back in England I wouldn't want to pay extra for the pleasure of RTE/TV3/TV4 .

Also, as someone said upthread, there simply aren't enough people living here to make it worthwhile in financial terms, if the show was limited to Irish viewers and a minority of those watching on the net.

Finally, and I know I'm repeating myself here, can you imagine just how loooooong it would take to build the house?

The question of whether you see yourself as British or Irish isn't of any great importance and is, indeed, no doubt OT for this thread. However, it is mildly interesting.

I simply noticed that you come from County Down. I've found it slightly odd that when you talk to some Ulster people, they bristle if you assume they're Irish, while others bristle if you assume they're British.

It's just a little tricky for non-Ulster people to avoid treading on Ulster toes. A friend of mine, born and brought up in Ulster though she hasn't lived there for at least twenty years, still has the old Ulster reflexes that make her say, on hearing someone's name, "Ah, she'll be a Catholic." My friend is a kind, generous, tolerant woman, but I'm afraid her Ulster upbringing has marked her for life! It's an odd place, Ulster.

I quite agree, though, that the IRA "joke" a few posts back was pretty silly.

I'm meant that it should be funded by Ch4 + E4 and shown in both countries, with both Brits and Irish being allowed to vote.

I think it would be a touchy issue. I mean, you don't see Channel 4 funding French BB, or Italian BB etc. Why should it (be allowed to) fund a BB in Ireland? Ireland has its own TV channels.

Don't get me wrong, I see where you're coming from, but I think - from a political point of view - it would open a big can of worms. After I moved to Ireland I was told by Irish colleagues that when Marks & Spencer first opened in Dublin a *lot* of people complained of colonialism. I think the reaction to your suggestion would be the same.

A joint thing with an Irish channel, Irish presenters (Dermott? ) and Ch4 funding it. Like Father Ted - Irish content, Ch4 money.

Not how it works, I'm afraid.

RTE and the BBC collaborate (so, for instance, you can get "Eastenders" on RTE)

TV3 and ITV - here called UTV - collaborate (so you get "Corrie" and "Im a celebrity..." on TV3).

Channel 4 has no Irish equivalent to collaborate with. "Father Ted" was simply an acquisition. No voting public involved.

PS: Completely agree with you on Dermot!

No...Simple reason is that it will be crap cos RTE will be involved and they havent got the money nor the brains to do it.

I suppose it's up to Endemol. But I doubt that they'd go for it unless they can strike a deal with Ch4, as well as an Irish channel.

BB Ireland was mooted once or twice in the media, but it will never happen.
If anybody has seen the reality shows RTE have done they will know that they can't do them for Toffee or even revenue!.
They put people on a boat sailing around Ireland, the reality ship sunk!.
They put a load of "celebrity" irish females into a radio station and had them run it 12 horus a day. That was exciting, not.
Quite simply, RTE and all the heads up in Montrose have their heads up their arses, they believe they are talented enough to come up with their own ideas, invariably they never work.
