Anyhoo, I don't actually disagree with you that it may not be the best environment for the cats or MM herself but what were the other options?? Some people just genuinely want to help and may end up overtaxing themselves or being taken advantage of by others.
I have offered my support as I think the intentions are well meant and the lady needs help to cope with her current situation...
As someone else mentioned please feel free to make some practical suggestions as what MM can do (she can't go back in time and not have 35 cats!!)
I am not able to offer any practical solutions for MM but maybe other people can???”
No mention of cats but Maisie's cat hotel seems to be a one way visit only - though I note she has now said that she has managed to re-home at least one of her cats.
I have made the same practical suggestion several times in these threads

I personally know people who, wanting to rescue cats, set up registered catteries with which to fund their own rescues, they board cats on a private basis and the money made goes into providing for the costs and care of the rescue cats. Everything is registered, regulated and above board and work as proper businesses. These ladies advertise their businesses and they also advertise their rescue cats for re-homing, online and in the local newspapers.
There are start up costs such as insurance and advertising costs as well as providing adequate facilities and a good sized garden to accommodate the heated cages and pens but I am sure some sort of grant could be obtained and I would be happy to donate money to such a cause if it meant everything was regularly inspected and the rescue cats ended up in good homes and not all residing inside a single house, under the care of a single person.
It is very important to have a healthy life balance. One person totally responsible for the care of 35 cats (it may even be more than that if the newly acquired ferals are not already included) does not make for a happy, healthy person or happy, contented cats, no matter how well fed or well looked after the cats are.
In the meanwhile, I agree with Maisie that she should contact the RSPCA for advice and hopefully surrender some or most of her current cats to registered rescue organisations - this way she can find some breathing space, have a break, gain a fresh perspective - and start again with the proper set-up and back-up in place.
I have said several times that I know Maisie is a good person with a kind heart who has helped many people here but I don't think people are helping
her by encouraging her to continue with the present arrangement.
Maisie, you have previously made more specific allusions to your dark past so this is not secret. I can only form my opinions and make personal judgements on what I read here and these opinions are shaped by what I do for a living and the type of troubled patients who I have encountered over the years. Many are hoarders, of one sort or another. I am sorry if you feel I am casting aspersions but cat hoarding/collecting, always done with really good intentions, often originates from troubled periods in life such as grief. I just think you need some proper help and I really hope you find a way forward.
