Is the trilogy film reboot a good idea or should MGM listen to the fans and create a film based on the characters we know and love from SG1 SGA and SGU? The tv series was never broke an personally I want more SGA was cancelled too early

I liked the first movie, it would have been nice to see a sequel with Kurt Russell but they left it too long. Wonder if he will get a cameo or something in the new movies?

I had the same reaction as when it was announced that it was intended to reboot Buffy: why bother? The TV series was far superior to the film, which I found rather mediocre and I don't really see the point of it to be honest.

I read it as, not a reboot reboot like they've done with Trek. More of a follow on kind of thing.

Maybe we'll get the conclusion of SG:U or what happened in the aftermath of SG-1 ep. "Unending"

I would prefer them to reboot much earlier films. Any before the 1960s. It's becoming frustrating that these days, they reboot films made only a decade or two ago.

If its a follow on then they could do so much with it and give the fans a real treat *fingers crossed*

I'm not sure a pure sequel would work for all the SG-TV fans (like myself), much as I liked Russell and Spader. Too much time passed.

I'd prefer a reboot, with new actors, and definitely cameos/acknowledgements for the original film and TV casts. Especially Tapping, Shanks and Judge. I doubt RDA would want to get involved, but there's probably a great joke Russell could do about 'the other O'Neill'

The reboot has nothing at all to do with the TV franchise. That is, unfortunately, dead.

It's a reboot of the first film.

That's fair enough. Didn't know that. But any reboot shouldn't ignore the TV series, any more than JJ Trek could (the series and the films). Unless MGM/whoever want to alienate the existing fanbase. Their call.

True. Give it a couple of years and they'll reboot Spider-Man again.

I dont think they care TBH, look what they did with SGU, the failure of that show basically killed off the franchise, and the man in charge refused to do any more stargate as his "baby" (sgu) wasnt liked by fans and the sgu story is what he wanted to tell, and he would tell it wether the fans liked it or not.

Now, here we are with the franchise dead and needing to be rebooted.

I liked the stargate universe, i dont think it needs rebooting, it certainly needs some money thrown at it and a decent relatable script to get regular punters involved, but theres no reason there cant be involvment from previous characters form the movies or shows,

robert Carlyle is a great actor.

I find this a slap in the face to the long term fans. I am a new fan of the franchise and it is a great television show. But their are two scripts somewhere which were shelved due to MGM having money problems. They are ok now and seem to have chucked the franchise into the dirt. Instead now they are moving foward with a re-boot franchise.

Stargate universe was ok, but it didn't feel like you were watching Stargate.

I had heard that original plans for movie sequels became ruined once the series had come along and messed around with the intended plot.

Personally i love the film and thought the TV series was a little weak. I quite liked Universe but to be fair that seemed less stargate and more just generic sci-fi.

Not sure about a re-boot though. There must be other, new, stories out there worthy of telling .....
