When I saw the thread title I panicked and thought the show had been axed! I've only been watching for just over a year via BBC Scotland on Sky but I'm hooked! I really do like the character of Gina and warmed to her very quickly in a short space of time, so it's unfortunate that she is departing the series. She is one of my favourites and I'm just grateful that she isn't being killed off. I would rather see the back of Billy Kennedy! I had enough with Sean and now we're stuck with him

I think Libby McArthur who plays Gina is a fantastic actress and to axe her is an absolutely crazy decision by BBC Scotland.

Reading between the lines Soapnut it looks like you are stuck with Billy Kennedy for the foreseeable future as it says 'show’s bosses sought to consolidate its reputation as a gritty drama' probably meaning they want more gangsters and darker storylines.

I'm not all that keen on Gina - she's just too much of a magnet for bad luck and misery! I much prefer Eileen, who basically has a decent heart but stands up for herself and bounces back when things get tough.

They should get rid of Billy, though. The actor's good, but it's just too much of the really dark, grim stuff. Lately when they've been focussing on the Mullans (and Lennie), and the Will and Robbie relationship, it's been much better.

When did river city become a police v gangsters show. It's a soap and should still have a place for characters like Gina. Who next to go?

Tattie has hardly featured for some time now and Christina hasn't been seen for time. I'm aware Caitlin has jumped ship to Waterloo Rd but her character hasn't officially left Sheildinch yet has she?

Poor decision by River City & BBC Scotland.

RC do dark storylines extremely well, the odd one now and then is fine but the show is wall to wall with them recently. More light is definitely needed to compliment the shade. I think it would have been more interesting and slightly more realistic if Greg could have weedled his way into a few other residents' lives and rinsed them in some way and not just Gina. Now we know it was obviously the writers get out clause storyline for her. I see there is an active campaign to save Gina but I think it's sadly too late.

Too much dark tension is going to start losing them viewers it was bad enough when Deek was axed they messed up the fallout from that with Bob becoming a bit part since.

Anyone know where I can see River City ratings?

She did an interview with DS not long ago about her WR character and in that interview she said that's her left River City! I assume her character is gonna get a brief mention that she's buggered off to University in Uzbekistan or something like that!

I've not watched a full episode of RC is a long time! There's nothing grabbing about it and all seems crime focused which in the beginning was pretty good, but the likes of Billy Kennedy and that charisma-less, plank that is going out with Nicole just makes the whole thing really unwatchable!

I hope she comes to Waterloo Road.

Surely they'll give her a decent exit though? She was a major character - even if she just comes back for an episode to leave again, on her way to Uni or whatever, it would be nice to see the family wishing her luck and waving her off (in the back of an AmberCab, with Jimmy driving, nae doot!)

Support for Gina (Libby) from the USA.

I use to love the Gina/Eileen scenes two sisters so different. Another nail in the coffin for River City. Does seem to me the great work from 2011/2012 is being lost.

Aye, it's been a dramatic change for the worse in a very short space of time hasn't it? Only a few months ago we were all singing its praises.
