Underwhelmed by Peter Capaldi?

Oooh. Let me think about that for a moment.

Let's see...

No. Not in the least. Absolutely not.

I think they've all been brilliant in their own way, and I can't wait to see what Mr Capaldi brings to the role.

God knows what the gurning entitled fangirls will say though (you can shout 'House!' here Granny).

Am I the only person who thinks Moffat's arcs have not been weak and the majority of Matt Smith stories are better than David Tennant ones? There were some fantastic ones like The Waters Of Mars, Midnight, Silence In The Library/Forest Of The Dead, Human Nature/Family Of Blood, Girl In The Fireplace and The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit (I love Unicorn And The Wasp as well but apparently it isn't regarded as a good episode), most of the others aren't that great, some are good though, but not great in my opinion.

There have been so many brilliant episodes during Matt's era, I don't understand why people don't think there have been many.

Nope. I'm super excited to see Peter as the Doctor

And I'm saying that even though Matt is my fav Doctor and it means that this is the end for Eleven.

That's exactly what I'm saying. There were some brilliant ones, the ones I mentioned, but not that many and a lot of the other just weren't that good.

I can list what I think are fantastic stories starring Matt if you like haha

Actually it's the first time I've been excited about the news (even with Tennant) it took me a while to like him. Hopefully he'll bring us a more serious Doctor. I'm just a little dubious over how well he'll do with Moffat's writing style.

I must admit I was initially slightly sceptical about seeing the role go to somebody who'd already played not one, but two characters within the Whoniverse. Not least when those two characters were so prominent to the stories they featured in. But by the time his casting was confirmed I was completely over that. I felt a jolt of excitement.

Now I can't wait for Twelve. The sooner series 8 arrives the better for me.

They are Tennant stories. The poster was saying that they are the exceptions - in general, they preferred the Smith stories. And I certainly agree.

Because they have something called an opinion and it differs from yours?

Just a guess.

Same here. I'm gutted that Matt decided to go so soon, but the prospect of such a radical change is bloody exciting! And it doesn't hurt (NPI) that he's an ex-ultra-fanboy!

Not understanding why the sky is blue is not the same as denying that it frequently is.

He can't seem to grasp that some people don't find some episodes brilliant that he does. Sounds a hell of a lot like they don't quite understand the concept of taste and opinion.

Nope. Not in any way. I was hoping for an older actor to play the Twelfth Doctor and I got my wish. I'm very pleased. Capaldi will be absolutely fantastic in the role. I just know it.

I'm with you. Been loving the arcs and hoping they go back to more series 6 style with Capaldi in the role.

And don't let people get you down, who are moaning about that last statement. It's pretty simple to understand exactly what you meant. (that there's a lot of negative opinion flying around about series 5, 6 and 7 and you don't think that it is merited). It can be very easy to get the impression that every Matt story has been crap from some people's 'opinions'. I put the word opinions like that because there really are a lot of people who throw phrases around as if they are quoting well established facts about the 'show being rubbish these days' and things like that. Don't worry- not everyone is like that. Just a couple of vocal ones. Most people are very fair, and if they have criticisms it is usually of the constructive kind, and not just that they can't get over there has been a change.

I've already seen a fanfic where Captain Jack thinks Frobisher has returned and shoots him

Or, alternatively, sounds exactly like he does. Don't you think that your reply also sounds like you don't understand why he finds some episodes brilliant that you don't?

You aren't the only person, no. The best of seasons 5 to 7 is as good as any Doctor Who that's yet been made, in my opinion, and the weakest isn't nearly as weak as some of the duff from seasons 1-4.

Well, I'm underwhelmed that anybody can form such a negative opinion without seeing so much as a single frame of footage of him in the role.

When it comes to opinions, I'm with Dirty Harry.

Worthy opinions are formed from, you know, consideration of actual evidence.
