I don't think I would have found it so shocking if it had just been an 'ordinary' slap (for want of a better word). To me it looked like Moira put her full weight into it, and that was what shocked me - it was the level of anger and violence - if that had been a real slap it would have been extremely sore (to say nothing of humiliating). She really went for him. I can understand why she did it but it was still a very shocking thing to see. I wonder if it will be mentioned again tonight?

Isn't it weird that we find violence on soaps disturbing when it's between men and women, but not when it's a man attacking a man, or two women fighting? After all, Cain makes a habit of punching people! Mind you, they usually deserve it

There is definitely a double standard. If Cain had hit Moira like that in front of the police he'd have been arrested on the spot, so why doesn't it work both ways? It was especially hypocritical behaviour from Moira considering she's always lecturing Cain about not resorting to violence.

tbh I think in reality it would. It's still breach of the peace or whatever. I can't help thinking that the lead detective was so angry with Cain herself that she supported Moira. She wasn't being particularly objective (or professional).

actually I remember when Dennis hit Zoe, there was actually a lot of praising on this forum

whilst I agree that often violence against men is seen as acceptable when it shouldn't be, violence is a crime no matter what, I remember a thread when Kirsty left Corrie saying poor Kirsty and how out of order Tyrone was, what was even more worrying is how many people on the thread where backing her, it was really very worrying.

The only programme I can think of (although I haven't tuned in for absolutely ages) where violence against women is cheered for is WWE! (i think if it as a glorified soap opera lol) the only.other isolated incident I can remember is where OB from Hollyoaks punched Clare in the face. All the viewers loved it and when it was shown at the soap awards the audience erupted into cheers.
