Football should be put on one of the hundreds of designated channels

Matches are usually played at 7:45 or 8:00 so along with talking about the match at first it would start when CS usually does

Because there is an hour of Corrie, and half an hour of Emmerdale.

Because matches start at 7:45pm. Why would you stop Emmerdale that takes 30 minutes in favor of 45 minutes buildup?

The football is live - they have no control over the match start time!
Besides the advertising revenue is massive compared to that from soaps. ITV is a business - their aim is ultimately to make money.

Agreed - surely they could put the football (or any other sport for that matter) onto one of the Freeview channels and leave the regular programmes where they are.

It's high time the people responsible for the TV schedules realised that the world does not revolve around sport.

The BBC used to do this for Eastenders, now they are more considerate to viewers after many complaints.

If for example Wimbledon is on, they usually put what's on BBC1 over to BBC2. If it's not possible, Eastenders is shown after the event.

It has sometimes been the 2nd most watched soap.

Emmerdale does occasionally get moved to 6.45 but I take your point, at least it is still on every day regardless of football.

But it does revolve around money. Football brings in far more money than soaps do. I'm not a fan of football, but ITV wouldn't have half of their high quality output with the money that sport brings in.

It's not like you ever lose an episode, they are always made up in another time slot or day.

By the same token, nor does it revolve around soaps.

Maybe you should realise that the world does not revolve around the soaps.

Because the football is on at the time when Corrie would be on.

The football isn't on at the time when Emmerdale is on.

Simple as that.

When you think about the amount of times Soaps are on per Year, the amount it gets moved is tiny.
Plus it's not like you miss out as every ep gets repeated so often.

Just means you get an extra half hour to do something else.

How about they put football on tuesdays when Corrie isn't on and there's only one Emmerdale on? That way Emmerdale fans still see their episode and Corrie wouldn't be messed with.

to me saying that they should reschedule Emmerdale, and not Corrie, is just the same as saying that football should take precedence over Corrie. Personally, I rarely watch Corrie these days, so I couldn't care if they reschedule it. Especially if you're basing it on BARB ratings - because the football will always win on that basis.

I hate it when programmes I like get rescheduled for sports, but I don't really see that they have any other option. If that's the time the game is being played at, and it's going to be big business for the commercial channels to show it then what else can they do?
It is annoying, but the soaps are repeated, and then there's the ITV/STV players as well.

I live in a village which has 2 pubs and neither of them has a telly. So I disagree, it's not what pubs are for. Also what if people who want to watch football have young kids and can't get a babysitter? They can't go out then even if they do know of pubs which shows sports.

By the way I hate sports but I don't think the football world should play their matches to tie in with my tastes - I don't consider myself to be that important.
