What was the worst year Doctor Who has had? IMO it was 2011 with SJA and Torchwood ending and the utter crap that was series 6.

2012 because of the total lack of ANYTHING Who related until the end of the year.

1990, first year with no episodes at all.
I was just born then, so I don't know for sure, but i'm guessing for the fans back then, that must have seemed like the lowest possible feeling.

1997. The TV movie had bombed. No hope whatsoever of a future. No BBC repeats and only 5 vhs releases.

2013. It's the anniversary year and the shows being treated like crap. We should've had a huge 13 episode series followed by the 50th special and then the Christmas one.

Yep, totally worse than being cancelled and having no episodes at all. Sorry, but it takes a real leap in the suspension to declare this year as the worst, as we're still getting more in this Anniversary year than fans did in both 1993 and 2003.

Off the top of my head - I'd say 1989 and 2011/12

Poor Sylvester had no choice - the BBC killed it off!
2011 onwards - it just became the Doctor Amy and Rory Show!
Full of weird goings-on and timey bonkers crap to explain why people can die and live again - and then die and HAVE to die! Never explained!
I pray that the new series will not continue like this - Just get back to basics please!!
I've hated this last two series.....I want to love it again!

Every year counts, that's the whole point of an anniversary! It's very premature to write off this year when we've not even had the special and the docu-drama yet.

Agree with those who've said 1989 - I wasn't old enough to be watching at the time but can imagine hearing the show was being cancelled was a real blow to the fans.

Yes how bizarre that the show in 2011 and onwards was all about the doctor and his companions and timey wimey stuff and bizarre goings on! What a change this was from the show we once all loved.

Yeah, it's like they went and made Dr Who into some kind of sci-fi time travel show instead of Eastenders in space. What were hey thinking? lol

Series 6=excellent, so there

And for that matter it's all been good since 2005, so please stop moaning at how bad past years were. there's enough to worry about with the BBC only letting us have a reduced output in what is supposed to be a special 50th year. I'm sure none of us want the show to be wound down.

1848. Not only did the programme not exist yet but there was rioting across Europe. Coincidence?

I'm going for 1986. Robert Holmes died and then Colin Baker got fired. Everything was downhill from there.

But to be fair Amy and Rory dominated the show. It was as if The Doctor was the co star but thankfully he stepped to the centre again in series 7

I said this earlier on my thinking for old fans, but thinking about it a bit more more, for me personally, 2011 was the worst year.
Not for the episodes, but because we lost two greats in Elisabeth Sladen and Nicholas Courtney. Still very sad nearly 3 years later.
I will never forget that feeling of complete shock and sadness the night I saw on the news that Lis had passed away.

Hmm. 1990, that was bad, 1991 too. Also: 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004...

For no particular reason, this thread reminds me of this:
