My 2 year old tuxedo kitty Luna is very loving and affectionate, and when I'm in bed watching TV at night she likes to cuddle up with me.

This is fine and nice but when she first comes up, she likes to lick and knead my chest, neck and face. I wouldn't mind the kneading but her claws are extremely sharp and regularly end up hurting me, last night she ended up catching my eyelid and almost pierced it. It was bleeding so because of this I'm reluctant to let her too close sometimes, which she doesn't understand as she doesn't realise she hurts me.

The length of her claws do not cause her any problems at all, just me so I don't know what to do with her. She uses scratching posts but they don't make any difference to her claws. I try to cut them myself but this normally doesn't work either, coz she knows what I'm upto and escapes. So, is there anything else I can do? Should I try filing them? Should I stop cuddles? (which I don't want to do coz I love my baby girl)

Try trimming her claws when she is asleep. By the time she has worked out what you are up to, you might have managed most of one paw. Then wait for the next nap time to try a bit more. I did this with mine and although she protests a little, she will tolerate it.

One of mine has claws that need trimming regularly, the vet showed me how to do it but its still not easy as she hates having it done, its like a battle of wills every time.

That's what I thought, I'll wait until she's in another room flat out and the house is quiet then I'll sneak in like a burglar and do it. She might not like me for it but she will when she wants a fuss at night and I'm not hiding under my duvet from her coz I don't want to be clawed.
