I hate to break this to you, but ballet is darn sight harder than ballroom and takes years and years of training and extraordinary talent, not sequins.

She was and still is a global ballet star - which is more than you can say of the many ballroom wannabees from Penge.

Blackpool seems to be their Mecca. In ballet it is a little more international - New York, Paris, etc, etc.

I speak as one who has been accused of speaking with the odd plumb in my mouth. This is how I have always talked and I manage to get my message across very we'll in most situations.

I can't spell so anyone who likes can pick holes in my posts and makes elves feel superior”

Well said. of course it is all about class and chips on shoulders and resenting anyone with a percieved 'posh' accent.

The whiners need to get over themselves and their class hang-ups and stop being so painfully ignorant and narrow-minded.

Exactly. But then ballroom people have no idea about ballet or what it takes to be a global ballet star.

Sadly that says a lot about a total lack of knowledge of both the ballet world and dance in general.

Ballroom had to borrow dances from everyone else because they had none of their own. They stole everyone else's and then messed about with them.

Have you ever seen a real rumba, or a proper East Coast Swing? (which ballroom turned into their terrible Jive)? No, I expect not.

Much better than Aleshia so I don't worry about her Accent/mannerisms

I do like Aleshia, but I prefer Darcy.

Why some people are taking exception to Darcey's well-modulated tones when we have Len blethering on like the Strictly pearly king, Bruno camping it up like a pantomime Cornetto salesman and Craig rapidly becoming a parody of a sarcastic drag queen, I have no idea.

But then other people will always be something of a mystery to me.
Particularly on this board .

It's strange how some people get worked up about just some accents as with Darcey's but as you write no one seems to bother about Len's (which I am sure is exaggerated for effect) and also others moan because Tess has a bit of a Northern accent.

Not sure what you meant by "three dimensional" but I seriously doubt her accent is an affectation. After all, who would she be trying to impress? Her accent is unusual (I find it attractive) but it's probably just a result of having spent a great deal of career travelling as well as the period she spent living in Australia, both of which would have unconsciously altered her accent. And obviously she was a bit posh to begin with too...

It's completely absurd to discount someone's opinion just because you don't like the sound of their accent.

The Australian bit reminds me of Julia Gillard, like a partial Aussie thing, but incomplete, so it sounds a little odd, but individual and idiosyncratic.

For goodness sake - Darcey has always spoken as she does now. It's not affected. She's the least affected person you're likely to meet - that's why she was such a good company dancer for such a long career (in my view, to her detriment at times).

If you don't like it, fine. But show some respect and keep it to yourself. Who needs to know ?

Well said. Yes, she is one of the most down to earth people you are ever likely to meet, and funny with it. People really are odd about accents. Shows very closed minds.

You do realise this is a discussion board where any viewpoint is valid providing it doesn't break t & c?

I agree with you, doesn't mean I don't think someone as the right to disagree with you.

Plus you can not like her or aspects of her personality and still be respectful.
