Looking around, there are a fair few appreciation threads out there, but haven't seen one for TheDivineOne - Carla Connor. She really is an incredibly complex character and Alison King does an amazing job of portraying her.

This current love square is showing us many different sides to Carla - all of which I am loving - and I feel it is time Carla got her own appreciation thread!!

Always been a fan from the start of her time on the show. I love the fact that beneath the sharpness and super confident business woman she presents to the world there is a very fragile and vulnerable woman. She evokes sympathy even when she is in the wrong sometimes. She uses her sexuality as a tool to try and get what she wants and is helpless in love. Alison King has fantastic chemistry with many fellow actors and though I loved the Liam and Carla affair it was Gray O'Brien whom I thought she absolutely had the best chemistry with. But am currently loving her with Chris Gascoigne who plays Peter; admittedly any romance that could occur between them would be destructive but I think it'd be great to watch.

She definitely needs her own thread! Loved her since she first arrived, and she's just been getting better and better lately I'm so glad they've taken her in this direction - I remember after the crash there were spoilers about how she was going to take advantage of Peter being in the wheelchair and push him towards drink so she could then take care of him, and I am beyond relieved that it's Nick in that role and not her Carla certainly has a manipulative side (which I love!) but she has a good heart and looks after the people she cares about. Probably my favourite soap character ever

Alison is brilliant at playing Carla - she's come a long way from being Paul's wife

This. Watching her fall in love with Liam and seeing her powerless to her emotions was just incredible. And I truly believe that she is deeply in love with Peter right now. That scene this evening, where she kissed his shoulder and wished she was his wife, competlely confirmed it to me.

Loving all the Carla support guys, just keep bringing!

I've said this many times before to the point of tedium but I firmly believe she and Leanne/Jane Danson are the few among the current cast that with the right writing, could be the future greats.

They're very special.

That moment when on finding out her legs just give way and she sinks to the ground, and when she is with Leanne and is trying to walk into oncoming traffic is just those scenes just broke my heart!

She's such a romantic at heart.

Grace Dent (Guardian columnist, twitter legend, Tv pundit etc) compared Carla to Elsie Tanner, saying how she has the potential to be legendary. LOved the recognition.

Oh she's great. Super woman

I think she is a really strong character and very multi layered. She has still got such along way to go as well, so hope she sticks around theres so much we don't know about her yet I think.

It's weird because I wasn't all that bothered or cared much during the Tony and Liam saga like a lot of people.

I have liked her since she has come out of the Conner family, and become her own person. Seeing alot more of the softer side of her has helped.

she has become my favorite character over the last few months and these days I look forward to seeing her more than any other character.

I am glad Nick is the one that did the whole drinking manipulation thing with Peter, and not Carla, it's better writing how it's been done with her on the slight outside of it all.

I love she owns Underworld by herself as well now. It's about time a woman took control of it and she is more than capable. I hope she is able to keep it going herself.

Spoiler

She was so lovely with Peter tonight. And it really reminded me of back during the Liam saga when he got drunk after a meal and fell asleep on her sofa, so she cancelled his cab and left Maria worrying at home knowing he'd spent the night at Carla's obviously two very different situations though, and two very different sides of Carla's personality

That moment when on finding out her legs just give way and she sinks to the ground, and when she is with Leanne and is trying to walk into oncoming traffic is just those scenes just broke my heart!

She's such a romantic at heart.
Those scenes were so hard to watch made even worse by the fact that she had to try and hold it together in front of anyone other than Leanne.

I've said this many times before to the point of tedium but I firmly believe she and Leanne/Jane Danson are the few among the current cast that with the right writing, could be the future greats.

Their scenes together are always brilliant. Loved tonight's as well, although I admired Carla's restraint at not telling Leanne she was being a complete hypocrite

DEFINITELY! Carla has some quality opening scenes with Peter and the two of them share a really tender moment. She then has some cracking scenes with Leanne in Underworld where the pair of them were on top form!

"You think you're so hard"
"I've had my moments"

And i am loving Carla and Peter, or Perla as i like to dub them

Yeah, it's a very good parallel. I thought she was good before Collinson took over but really, since the Tony stuff ended, her character has went from strength to strength.

She very complex and very layered, even when she's being a bitch, you like her. Oh she's just excellent, I could compliment her all day.

It's been very subtly done too. Her character has been building and building and now she's, quite rightly, one of the show's brightest stars.

Yes and what I am liking about her currently, is that despite the fact that internally she is tormented with this unrequited love and probably is feeling desperately alone, she is still reaching out to help others, and in the few scenes we had of Carla immediately after the tram crash, she was there with Fiz in labour, letting the girls off work and giving money towards Fiz and just being really caring and helpful but in the smallest way.

I also love Sam/Ronnie, i love watching strong women who appear to be in control but the viewers see the the vulnerable side of them. When Carla arrived I liked the dynamics between her Paul and Liam and then the way she acted after Liam's death. The chemistry with Tony was great although you knew that Liam was the one. She must have something for black haired men It would also be interesting to find out about her family as she never mentions them but it's implied that they are low class. Hope Ali stays for a long time as I can she her becoming a great character (well...even greater thn she is already) =D

I must admit I really do want to see something develop between Peter and Carla in a purely selfish way because I want to see how she'd cope with a child in the mix of a relationship. Added to the fact that Simon would likely resent her if she came into Peter's life and I think it'd be an interesting development to watch. Also I love how sweet she can be as mentioned helping Fiz following the tram crash, listening to Sally about her Cancer.

Yes, I think all we know, or most of it is that her brother is/has been in jail for some sort of thuggish behaviour, her mother was/is a drug dealer, and her father liked a drink or too. If they got the casting right with it, seeing Carla's brother turn up or something could be incredible!

Edit: It would also give us a chance to find out her maiden name! Any guesses?!
