I have just bought a freesat box to replace Sky and been using it over the past week or so.
Its a 320gb BUSH freesat+ box, I have been pretty impressed so far but watching BBC1 HD for the f1 this afternoon every so often the screen would flash black for a second and then back to normal.
It seemed fine on the regular BBC1 channel, is there a setting issue I need to fix or is it just a poor quality of broadcast?

Could also just be poor quality of freesat box.

I think Gonzo has hit the nail on the head!

Bush, Goodmans and Grundig receivers are all (or were) part of the “Harvard” group and manufactured in Turkey.

They tend to be popular due to their comparatively low cost.

I apologise now if my info is outdated and am happy to be corrected.

I watched F1 this week and didn’t notice any black out moments.

If you want a good quality Freesat receiver/PVR, splash out and buy a Humax.

Returned the Bush box yesterday as it was too problematic, as well as the HD channels blinking, i found failed recordings of programs due to "no signal" despite me watching it at the same time and the remote would only really work if i was within 3ft and in an exact straight line to the front of the box.
The concept of freesat is great but the execution is really hampered by the boxes available, unfortunately we cant all afford to "buy a Humax" (which is a bit like complaining about a Kia and the answer being buy a Mercedes) The problems seem widespread and Freesat really should do something about this to maintain credibility of the brand.
Meantime im just buying a cheap non branded FTA recorder

The problem is that when you buy budget then that's exactly what you get.
You say Freesat should do something, well that's exactly what they've done.
Freesat had no control over these budget branded G1 boxes which caused all sorts of issues, which is why G2 <free time> came about as Freesat have full control over what manufacturers have to agree and provide to produce a <free time> box. If they don't agree then they cannot produce one which is why currently you only see Humax available at this time.
You say you cannot afford a Humax box, but in the long term they're really not that expensive. How much are you spending on these budget branded boxes anyway?
The HDR 1000s is available for under £200 now.

How about a Humax 320g twin tuner PVR for £129?
