northern soul
any takers?
frank wilson 'Do I love you, Indeed I do' on the turntable right now. Anyone still on the nighter scene? I ask because I haven't been for years and a mate I haven't seen in an age has started DJing again on the scene and has asked me to turn up to a local night. Would be good to hear old / new stories of anyone who shuffled the night away on the johnson's baby talc. or am i the only oldie on the forum, myfannwy? |

Hi Lowlife,
Went to a northen soul gig/disco a few years ago, the music was great and I hadn't heard most of it before. Jimmy James was the artist playing. Used to live near Wigan Casino remember the 2 UK hits from Wigans Ovation and Wigans Chosen Few, who did Skiing In The Snow and Footsy respectively. Bought the KFC album for the Marleena Shaw-'California Soul' and Frank Wilson-'Do I Love You 'deed I do' tracks alone. I'm more into Motown and Philly but love most soul. Northern Soul was basically the obscure tracks that were not big hits, some of which ironically were on Motown. Of course the biggest hit was the reworking of Gloria Jones' (Marc Bolan's second wife- by common law) Tainted Love by Soft Cell, which led people to the Northern Soul original. |
