iPad Safari back button isn't right

Anyone else getting this? iPad 2, fully up to date but when I lurk about on these forums (and others) the back button first takes me back to the top of the current page, then may or may not take me back to the next level up with subsequent presses. In short, the back button is no longer working as a back button. Anyone else? Any suggestions?

Yep getting the same problem, either it doesn't go back and needs like 2 presses, just keeps loading the page your on, or just needs to presses to go backwards, but not all the time!!

Glad (not really) your getting the same problem, thought it was me.

Use Chrome set to desktop browser.

I think Safari, even on the iPad is a mobile browser.

I'll check for Safari having that option but as it's worked fine since I had the thing 18 months ago I doubt if its the architecture. Equally, I'm quite happy with Safari, so although the answer to the question 'what's wrong with Safari?' may well be 'throw it away and use something else' I'd rather Safari went back to working how it did until recently.

My suspicion is that the it may be ads loading after the main page content has loaded that create a fake history that the Back button tries to navigate through.

Ever since non standard IE ensured web developers designed non standard web sites to work on IE thus failing on others I have varied my web browser usage.

Browsers should be there supporting developers and consumers yet it often ends up the other way round.

Strange.

I do my fair share of lurking around the DS forums and others and haven't noticed any oddities and 90% of my web use at home is on an iPad.

I tried on my iPad 4, iPad 1 (iOS 5.1.1) and our old iPod Touch 2G (iOS 4.2.1); all OK.

I can only suggest clearing cookies (Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies & Data) or website data (Settings>Safari>Advanced>Website Data>Show All Sites - find the entry for DS then swipe left, Delete).

I'm having the same problem on an iPad 3 .

I even updated to 6.1.3 to see if it changed anything.

It's probably just Apple trying to convince us or iPads are broken so we have to upgrade. Now where's my tinfoil hat.

^^^ lol, I did a hard re-set last night and still the problem exists, is very weird as it's only just started doing it, and not on new websites, these are sites I use often.

Me too but just in the past couple of days. They've probably done something on the site as my Safari hasn't been updated.

Yep, I thought it was due to having iPad mini in a case and just thought I wasn't hitting the back button cleanly!

I think, but I've yet to properly investigate, that DS is using an interstitial advertising agency when they detect iPad users.
As an iPad Safari user watch when you click a link on DS, it will quickly change to something else (I forget the name at the moment) then direct to the DS page you want.

I've noticed it a couple of times when this ( name i can't remember) servers are overloaded.

godirecting.at seems to be the culprit.

Seems to have sorted itself, last night no problems on sites that 2 days ago were causing problems

Something as simple as changing the browser user agent string would then fix it.
