I've noticed a few times in Corrie the last few weeks that scenes with Roy and Hayley have very loud ticking clocks. Even the scene with Roy and Fiz sitting drinking tea.

Has anyone else noticed that? Maybe I'm just over analysing things :P

Yes it's very Mike Leigh!

It's atmospheric - it adds a lot of pathos to the scenes without people crying or orchestrating a load of emotional histrionics. It's a strong reminder of time running out and there's a wonderful sort of dichotomy about a silence broken by a ticking clock. It's as if you can hear the character's internal dialogue, saying things they don't want to say out loud.

I think it's being done extremely well. It's a nod to the type of drama that gave birth to Coronation Street back in the late 1950s.

They prolly think it's a clever subliminal technique to remind us that time for Hayley is running out. Just to cover all possible angles in the event of us viewers not being able to digest the information by simply listening to what Hayley and friends are talking about. It's inclusivity for slow learners to cover themselves.

By the way isn't Anna Windass lovely? to quote, 'Aww sad isn't it?' now where's the ketchup? Such a sensitive soul, lol

You are right, it is very Mike Leigh. I'm glad it isn't just me that noticed it.

Some might think it is a silly way of reminding viewers her time is moving out, but I think it is a very theatrical device to use for televison, especially a soap.

Their scenes are just fantastic at the moment - surreal and charming in the Croppers' inimitable way, funny and heartwarming, and at the core of it a truly colossal sadness. Probably what most people's last months are like in this situation, I would guess. Making the best of the worst.

Does anyone think that the ticking clock will stop when she finally dies?

And: Does anyone think that her son will turn up at her deathbed.

I'm finding it very hard to watch as my BIL passed away from Pancreatic Cancer recently...I know my sister can't bear to watch

BIB - That is so true, its as though the character is in a silent (apart from the ticking) torment.

BIB - that would be very poignant if the clock did stop ticking

So sorry to hear about your BIL this SL must be so difficult for you and you're family to watch.

Well spotted jw2011. It's a nice touch, I'll look out for it.

With the quality of this sl, and Karl finally looking as if he'll get his comeuppance, Corrie is really spoiling us!

Perhaps they filmed it in my nan's house. She has like eleven clocks in every room.
